\n You already can see that the reopening of city schools this fall is shaping up as a complete disaster \u2014 because too many of the people in charge would rather focus on other cares.<\/p>\n

City Department of Education officials seem more concerned with issues like \u201cwhite privilege,\u201d and not how to get kids back to learning in the classroom.<\/p>\n

Families now have no clue what the school day (or week) will look like when the new year begins in just over two months. Which days, if any, will kids do remote-learning from home? Parents with jobs may need to scramble to find adult supervision.<\/p>\n

One principal warns that students may be in school just a third of their time, as The Post\u2019s Selim Algar reported. In-person art, music, science<\/a>, tech and phys-ed \u201cin the traditional sense\u201d are out, Brooklyn\u2019s PS 107 Principal Eve Litwack notes. As is pretty much all specialized learning, since folks must keep apart.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt a certain point, this isn\u2019t school anymore,\u201d a mom at the school sighs. \u201cParents don\u2019t know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the central bureaucracy is offering most schools no guidance on likely social-distancing rules, online-class standards or anything else. It\u2019s as if everyone from Chancellor Richard Carranza on down has just checked out.<\/p>\n

Or is busy with stuff like like Tuesday\u2019s \u201cAnti-Racist Community Meeting,\u201d sponsored by DOE\u2019s Early Childhood Division. Forget reading and \u2019rithmetic; it\u2019s Racism 101 for .\u2009.\u2009.\u2002preschoolers. (And with teachers strictly segregated by race or ethnic group, too.)<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, at a UFT delegate meeting last week, union officials warned that \u201cit\u2019s pretty clear we aren\u2019t going back into buildings\u201d unless the feds dump millions in aid on the city\u2019s schools.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Mayor Bill de Blasio blithely insisted that \u201cmost\u201d parents are \u201cwilling\u201d to handle the uncertainty about the fall; only the \u201cprivileged\u201d are looking to flee the system. Translation: The only parents who aren\u2019t rushing to find other options are the ones who can\u2019t afford anything else.<\/p>\n

Everyone in \u201cthe other New York\u201d will just have to put up with incompetence and chaos.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
