A New York City health care worker suffered a \u201csignificant allergic reaction\u201d to a COVID-19 vaccine \u2014 the first \u201cserious adverse event\u201d to the jab in the Big App<\/a>le \u2014 and is in stable condition, officials said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith more than 30,000 COVID-19 vaccinations administered in New York City, we have received a single report of a\u00a0serious\u00a0adverse event in a health care worker,\u201d according to the city Health Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cVaccines do have side effects and allergic reactions \u2014 while uncommon \u2014 are known to occur,\u201d the department added in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also know that based on clinical trials and reports of adverse effects in other jurisdictions, reactions such as these are rare but have been reported with the Pfizer vaccine.\u201d<\/p>\n

The unidentified health care worker is reportedly in stable condition after being treated for the reaction.<\/p>\n

The Health Department said it is closely tracking reports of more severe side effects in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first serious adverse event we have encountered in New York City,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to move forward with the coronavirus vaccine distribution to ensure that health care workers and nursing home staff and residents are protected against COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Health officials did not disclose which vaccination the worker received.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
