Evoking equal parts of Darth Vader\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rogue One <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hallway scene and Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon at the beginning of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Phantom Menace, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke Skywalker arrives and cuts down the Dark Troopers in style.<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To boil it down to a word, that word would be \u201cbadass.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This scene and depiction of Luke became a talking point between those who liked Luke\u2019s depiction as a broken man in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and those who disliked or misunderstood it, finding this new scene to be a repudiation of Rian Johnson\u2019s masterpiece.\u00a0So let\u2019s cut through the noise: the Luke on display in <i>The Mandalorian <\/i>is exactly the Luke that we\u2019ll find years later in <i>The Last Jedi.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let me explain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On one side of Excalibur, the legendary sword of Arthurian legend, it is written: \u201cTake Me Up.\u201d On the other side, it is written: \u201cCast Me Away.\u201d Excalibur is a symbol of the responsibility of power, and Luke\u2019s lightsaber across his journey represents this.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_2 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Luke Skywalker we see in\u00a0<em>The Mandalorian<\/em> (a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> set between three and five years after <em>Return of the Jedi<\/em>)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0is still in the \u201cTake Me Up\u201d phase of his use of the laser sword. He\u2019s building upon what he knew of his training. The Jedi who trained him still wanted him to be a sword of vengeance and justice in the galaxy. He had yet to become disillusioned. This Luke is one that wants nothing more than to help people and do good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201dYou think what? I\u2019m gonna walk out with a laser sword and face down the whole First Order?\u201d Luke says to Rey in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> After all, he\u2019s evolved past that. Maybe not in a good or healthy way, though. He\u2019s not yet been able to synthesize all of the lessons of his past.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">era of<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Mandalorian<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, walking out with a laser sword and facing off against all of his foes is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">exactly <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what Luke would do. Of course he\u2019d have to\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-651649 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/ezgif-3-69167b7aa90e.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke felt Grogu\u2019s presence in the Force and, thanks to the amplification of the temple, it was enough to send him tearing across the galaxy to find this powerful Force user who might be in trouble. This is Luke Skywalker\u2019s modus operandi and exactly the reason we find him in the spot he\u2019s in in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Empire Strikes Back<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Luke\u2019s entire story revolves around him ignoring the wisdom of his masters to save his friends, brushing him dangerously close to the dark side. This is the same path his father was on in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attack of the Clones <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and was a cause of concern. Anakin thought he could change his visions of the future and fell to the dark side. Yoda promises that once one starts down the dark path, forever will it dominate their destiny.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_3 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grogu <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Din Djarin in trouble, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of course <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke Skywalker is going to fly into battle to protect them with his laser sword. At this point in Luke\u2019s journey, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">this <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the Jedi way. Luke has yet to find catastrophe in sensing the future and trying to affect it.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The entire scene in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mandalorian<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows Luke idealizing the Jedi he has in his head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thumbs.gfycat.com\/SmallFalseHapuku-small.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNow that they\u2019re extinct, the Jedi are romanticized, deified,\u201d Luke tells Rey. \u201cBut if you s<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> away the myth and look at their deeds, the legacy of the Jedi is failure. Hypocrisy, hubris.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke in <em>The Mandalorian<\/em> is living up to that. This is him becoming the \u201clegend\u201d he tells Rey he became before he succumbed to that same hubris himself.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Which is why the scene <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">evokes Vader\u2019s appearance in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rogue One. <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Anakin\u2019s in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revenge of the Sith.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.pinimg.com\/originals\/0b\/1c\/23\/0b1c2307c83e1ebdeed72e41b9a058ad.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-651648 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Anakin.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post_4 --><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahsoka not taking Grogu as an apprentice is showing a different path of wisdom, though she might have been mistaken as well. She\u2019s concerned about Grogu\u2019s attachment because of his connection to Din Djarin, and this is exactly what happened with her master, Anakin Skywalker. Both were asked to leave their consenting parents. To Ahsoka, the risk is too great.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/fa851446289f0257db3b924527a80c55\/tumblr_inline_nlq7j6yxld1tq4ort.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-651651 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/mando-child-gif.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"202\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ahsoka has learned lessons that Luke hasn\u2019t yet. Luke says of Ben Solo, and we\u2019ll see if it\u2019s true of Grogu, as well: \u201cIn my hubris, I thought I could train him; I could pass on my strengths.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke\u2019s entire trajectory is about a man who can sense the future and change it for the better. Where Anakin tried and fell, Luke has been successful. He saved his friends and turned his father back to the side of good. But, as Yoda says, always in motion is the future.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.makeagif.com\/media\/2-18-2016\/lNzXc_.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s not possible for Luke to have won all of these fights against potential futures. And that\u2019s why there was such a struggle in him when he saw so much darkness in his nephew that fateful night at the temple.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-651654 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Uncle-Luke-is-MAD.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"213\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke\u2019s modus operandi to this point was to fix the future before anything bad happened, no big deal. And it backfired. Horribly. He disappointed his masters, his family, the Force\u2026the entire galaxy. And he had a lesson to learn. That\u2019s why he went into exile. And that\u2019s why he cut himself off from the Force, convinced he\u2019d do more harm than good with his visions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why the central question of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Force Awakens<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was never \u201cWho is Rey?\u201d It\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">always <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">been \u201cWhy didn\u2019t Luke come to save Han?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke is in the phase of his life where he\u2019s turned the sword over. Luke believes that he\u2019s learned how to cast Excalibur away. But he\u2019s wrong. He learns that he can still save the galaxy, but can come up with ways to do it that don\u2019t end in the violence and hubris of his past.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why Luke\u2019s Force projection on Crait is the perfect synthesis of all of his teachings. Luke can save his loved ones and give his nephew, Ben, a choice without having to resort to killing him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cA Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense. NEVER for attack.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-651653 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/I-HATE-YOU-UNCLE-LUKE.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"498\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is where Luke truly becomes a Jedi Master. He takes the path of least traditional force to save his friends. He\u2019s taken the lessons of his youth (taking up the sword) and the lessons of his age (casting it away) and found \u201cPeace \u2013 and Purpose.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6025735\/uploads\/editor\/bb\/eo6ra6qxqqf6.gif\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He\u2019s able to use the image of the sword rather than the sword itself. And, for the most part, that\u2019s more Jedi-like than anything we saw the Jedi of the Republic accomplish. The Luke Skywalker of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mandalorian<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is in no way a repudiation of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They\u2019re the same character at different moments of their lives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why I love the sprawling nature of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Star Wars, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">watching stories across such a vast timeline. Yes, the Luke in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Mandalorian <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the Luke some wanted to see in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Last Jedi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but that would\u2019ve shown zero character growth on Luke\u2019s part for a period of more than 30 years.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It would have been the worst disservice to his character.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we now have both and we\u2019re all happy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>                            <strong>Cool Posts From Around the Web:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>                            <!-- \/post -->\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
