“#Taika Waititi’s Reservation Dogs Gets Picked Up By FX \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Though he may be a filmmaker fit for the gods (of love and thunder),\u00a0Taika Waititi<\/strong> still found the time to develop yet another series<\/a> for FX. The\u00a0Thor: Ragnarok<\/em> director, whose TV series version of the hysterical FX comedy\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows<\/em> is heading into a third season, is one of the minds behind the half-hour comedy\u00a0Reservation Dogs<\/em><\/strong>, which has already been handed a series order by FX.<\/span><\/p>\n

Variety<\/a> reports that Waititi is teaming up with Native American writer and director\u00a0Sterlin Harjo<\/strong> for the half-hour comedy\u00a0Reservation Dogs<\/em>, which follows \u201cfour Native teenagers in rural Oklahoma who spend their days committing crime and fighting it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The series stars\u00a0D\u2019Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai<\/strong>, Devery Jacobs<\/strong>, Paulina Alexis<\/strong>,\u00a0and Lane Factor<\/strong> as the aforementioned teens, who can be seen in the first-look image above. The pilot episode also features guest stars Tamara Podemski, Zahn McClarnon, Macon Blair, Kirk Fox, Matty Cardarople, Dallas Goldtooth, Lil Mike and Funny Bone.
\nWaititi co-wrote the pilot with Harjo, who also directed the Oklahoma-set pilot episode (almost all of Native Oklahoman Harjo\u2019s previous feature films and documentaries are set in that state). Waititi and Harjo will executive produce\u00a0Reservation Dogs<\/em> alongside\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows<\/em> producer\u00a0Garrett Basch.<\/p>\n

\u201cSterlin Harjo draws deeply on his experiences as a Native Oklahoman to make Reservation Dogs a true-to-life and incredibly funny story of youth, courage and misadventures,\u201d said Nick Grad, FX Entertainment\u2019s president of original programming. \u201cTaika Waititi lends his considerable talents to the series, helping Sterlin and their creative partner Garrett Basch produce a unique and original series we can\u2019t wait for audiences to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs longtime friends, it was only natural that Taika and I found a project together, and what better than a show that celebrates the complementary storytelling styles of our indigenous communities \u2013 mine in Oklahoma and Taika\u2019s in Aotearoa,\u201d added Harjo. \u201cWe\u2019re thrilled by the opportunity to tell the Reservation Dogs\u2019\u00a0story with our amazing cast and crew, Garrett Basch, and the whole team at FX.\u201d<\/p>\n

A coming-of-age series with a comedic criminal twist and a punny title? It sounds promising, especially with Waititi involved (though likely only to kick things off before he hands the reins over to his creative partners and heads back to the Marvel universe). Waititi is busy juggling several other TV projects as well, including the HBO Max pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death<\/em> and App<\/a>le TV+\u2019s\u00a0Time Bandits<\/em>.\u00a0After the critical success of\u00a0What We Do in the Shadows<\/em> \u2014 based on the 2014 film of the same name co-directed by Waititi \u2014 its no wonder FX was quick to give\u00a0Reservation Dogs<\/em> a series order. And though this project isn\u2019t based on a previous Waititi project, it\u2019s clear that the filmmaker is using his status to boost creators of color and give voice to underseen communities.<\/p>\n
