PUNCH. FISHES!!\u201d study co-author Eduardo Sampaio excitedly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OctoEduardo\/status\/1340076667696533511?s=20\">tweeted<\/a> of his research\u2019s publication. \u201cThis was probably the most fun I had writing a paper. Ever!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Octopuses and fish are known to hunt together, mutually benefitting from the other\u2019s strengths \u2014 except when the tentacled ocean thugs decide to randomly deck their collaborators right in the scales.<\/p>\n<p>An octopus punch looks like \u201ca swift, explosive motion with one arm directed at a specific fish partner,\u201d the paper describes \u2014 an act which costs octopuses little of their zeal. \u201c[Actively] punching a fish partner entails a small energetic cost for the actor (i.e. octopus),\u201d the authors explain.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers recorded eight octopus-on-fish fight videos between 2018 and 2019 in the Red Sea involving a diversity of victims, including squirrelfish, blacktip, lyretail, groupers, yellow-saddle and goatfishes. <\/p>\n<p>While six of the fisticuff outbreaks could be linked to obvious octopus motives \u2014 including the wholesome desire to \u201censure collaboration\u201d \u2014 two <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear to be wanton acts of fish violence. The researchers do not fully understand why octopuses sometimes have violent, purposeless episodes but believe it could simply be \u201cspiteful behavior\u201d or a form of \u201cpunishment.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>How hurt the fish are by such outbursts \u2014 physically and emotionally \u2014 are also currently beyond the knowledge of <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve never seen permanent marks or anything like that from getting punched, but can\u2019t say for sure if fish are hurt or not.
