Visa said it will allow cardholders to buy some porn from Pornhub\u2019s parent company, MindGeek \u2014 but not Pornhub itself.<\/p>\n

The credit-card giant said it will lift its payment ban for MindGeek sites that host porn from professional studios. The Luxembourg-based conglomerate owns several such sites, including Brazzers, Digital Playground and Men.com.<\/p>\n

\u201cFollowing a thorough review, Visa will reinstate acceptance privileges for MindGeek sites that offer professionally produced adult studio content,\u201d a Visa spokesperson said<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n

But Visa says it will still ban payments for Pornhub and other MindGeek platforms where users can upload their own videos, such as YouPorn and RedTube.<\/p>\n

Visa joined Mastercard in cutting off such transactions this month after a New York Times expos\u00e9 found Pornhub hosted videos of rape scenes, revenge porn and other footage taken without the knowledge or consent of the participants.<\/p>\n

Pornhub has ramped up its efforts to root out illegal content following the Times investigation by removing millions of videos that were uploaded by unverified users, launching new content-moderation initiatives and pledging to revamp its verification system.<\/p>\n

In a statement responding to Visa\u2019s latest decision, MindGeek said it is dedicated to showing it has implemented \u201cthe most far-reaching safeguards in user-generated platform history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAny assertion that we allow child sexual abuse material on our platform is flagrantly untrue,\u201d the company said. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are committed to combating illegal content for the safety of our community, and so that the hundreds of thousands of models that rely on our platform can continue to earn a living.\u201d<\/p>\n
