Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey shared a third annual Christmas Eve video Thursday that left many wondering whether he knew how to read the room.<\/p>\n

The nearly 2\u00bd-minute YouTube video<\/a>, which he also posted<\/a> on his Twitter<\/a> feed, featured Spacey, 61, addressing the camera directly while walking in an unidentified park. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat would Christmas Eve be without a message from me?\u201d\u00a0he said, kicking off the video in the Southern accent of his former \u201cHouse of Cards\u201d character, Frank Underwood, as he also did in bizarre holiday videos in 2019<\/a> and 2018<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cListen, a lot of people have reached out to me this past year and have shared their own struggles. And my ability to be there for them has really only been possible because of my own difficulties,\u201d he said, alluding to prior sexual assault allegations<\/a> leveled against the Oscar-winning actor. Spacey is currently facing a lawsuit<\/a> from \u201cStar Trek: Discovery\u201d actor Anthony Rapp<\/a>, 49, and another man, identified as C.D., who accused him of making sexual advances toward them in separate incidents when they were each underage. Rapp said he was 14<\/a> when his incident occurred.<\/p>\n

Spacey \u2014 who in May said he has \u201cempathy\u201d<\/a> for people who have lost jobs during the coronavirus pandemic \u2014 went on to lament not being able to help people who might be struggling with thoughts of suicide during a tumultuous 2020. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it\u2019s been a privilege to offer support, I have to say, frankly, it\u2019s also been beyond my abilities and it\u2019s bigger than me,\u201d the grim-faced actor said. \u201cBecause, heartbreakingly, so many have talked about things having gotten so bad for them that they contemplated taking their own lives. And that\u2019s enough for me to want to take an entirely different approach this year, to acknowledge their pain. <\/p>\n

\u201cTo anyone out there who is struggling \u2014 or contemplating that idea \u2014 please, please do not take that step,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf you\u2019re standing in a place that you can no longer remain standing. If you\u2019re suffering, if you need help. If you feel guilt or shame. If you\u2019re struggling with your identity. If your back\u2019s up against the wall. Or if you feel that there is no path for you, whatever your situation, I promise you, there is a path.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spacey then gallantly added, \u201cYou are not alone,\u201d and used the video to promote suicide and substance abuse hotlines. \u201cSo I just want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a great 2021, and say to all those out there who might be suffering: It gets better. It does get better,\u201d he continued, seemingly co-opting the name of an LGBTQ support group<\/a> founded by activist and journalist Dan Savage and his husband, Terry Miller.<\/p>\n

While he had some supporters \u2014 \u201cKeep your chin up, brother! You are missed,\u201d offered one<\/a> \u2014 much of the Twitter feedback was negative.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhich one of your teen sex slaves told you this was a good idea,\u201d one commenter alleged<\/a>, while another asked<\/a>, \u201cIs this your way of trying to win people over?\u201d Someone else suggested<\/a>, \u201cMaybe you should sit this, and every, day OUT. #YouveDoneEnoughDamage<\/a> Just sayin\u2019.\u201d One poster confronted Spacey with<\/a> \u201cliterally nobody is asking you to do this,\u201d while another was more direct, writing<\/a>, \u201cPLEASE F\u2013KING STOP.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2019, Spacey \u2014 whose movies<\/a> include 2007\u2019s \u201cFred Claus,\u201d 1999\u2019s \u201cAmerican Beauty\u201d and 1995\u2019s \u201cThe Usual Suspects\u201d \u2014 also resurfaced in Italy to give a poetry reading<\/a> about a boxer. \u201cThe more you are wounded, the greater you are and the more empty you are,\u201d Spacey shared from a poem by Gabriele Tinti.\n <\/div>\n
