A police officer was shot in the back in Brooklyn Thursday night \u2014 and might have been saved when the bullet hit the rear armor of her protective vest, sources said.<\/p>\n

The cop was responding to a domestic dispute at 1606 Prospect Place in Crown Heights just after 9 p.m. when the gunman opened fire, according to police sources.<\/p>\n

The perp was on his way to his girlfriend\u2019s house when he allegedly told her that he had a gun and was going to open fire when he got there, the sources said.<\/p>\n

Cops arrived at the residence after the girlfriend\u2019s mother called 911.<\/p>\n

The officers were talking to the younger woman when the suspect arrived, shot the cop and fled, according to the sources. He was app<\/a>rehended a short time later<\/p>\n

The girlfriend\u2019s mother then called 911 and the gunman fled, according to sources.<\/p>\n

The cop was rushed to Kings County Hospital. Her condition is unknown.<\/p>\n

Police officers gathered at the hospital late Thursday night to offer their support.<\/p>\n

Sources said that the gunman was arrested shortly after the shooting. The suspect has not yet been identified and a motive for the attack was unclear late Thursday.<\/p>\n

The FBI\u2019s Joint Terrorism Task Force was also at the scene.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
