\n Councilman Donovan Richards app<\/a>eared to be the victor to become the next Queens borough president early Wednesday.<\/p>\n

With more than 80 percent of the vote counted, Richards, who chairs the public safety committee, had captured 37 percent of the vote, ahead of former Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley with 28 percent and Councilman Costa Constantinides with 16 percent.<\/p>\n

Former cop Antony Miranda garnered 15 percent of the vote and Dao Yin received 4 percent.<\/p>\n

There were still thousands of absentee ballots to be counted.<\/p>\n

Richards, who represents southeast Queens and the Rockaways, was endorsed by the Queens Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

Should the numbers hold, Richards would be a shoo-in for the general<\/a> election.<\/p>\n

The election took place to replace former Borough President Melinda Katz, who was elected Queens district attorney last year.<\/p>\n

Sharon Lee serves as the acting borough president until a replacement is elected.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
