“#Marcus Lemonis on new CNBC show ‘Streets of Dreams’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Marcus Lemonis has no financial stake in the businesses of his new CNBC series<\/a> \u2014 and that\u2019s the point, as he takes an in-depth stroll down America\u2019s \u201cStreets of Dreams.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a typical episode of \u2018The Profit\u2019 where I\u2019m making investments in a company,\u201d says Lemonis, 47, about his acclaimed CNBC series. \u201cIn \u2018Streets of Dreams\u2019 we take all the formulaic elements that have worked for us for years and do something completely different.\u201d<\/p>\n

The five-episode series, premiering Tuesday at 10 p.m., follows Lemonis as he pulls back the curtain on businesses shrouded in an air of mystery \u2014 and the people behind them. First up: New York\u2019s Diamond District on 47th Street between 5th and 6th avenues, where Lemonis gains unprecedented, behind-locked-doors access to the block\u2019s diamond dealers \u2014 explaining how the $24 billion business works, from start to finish \u2014 and meets its colorful personalities.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you come to New York City, which is the greatest city in America for art, commerce, shopping etc., you have to go to 47th Street,\u201d Lemonis says. \u201cThe people there were very transparent. We were very thoughtful about making sure we didn\u2019t put them in a precarious position and hurt their business. I mean, Coke wouldn\u2019t tell you the recipe for their soda.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never felt like they were being secretive, like giving me a \u2018talk to my publicist\u2019 answer,\u201d he says. \u201cI give the diamond community a lot of credit for taking some of the mystery away, from my perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lemonis says the idea for the series \u2014 which will also visit Music Row in Nashville; Calle Ocho (known as \u201cLittle Havana\u201d) in Miami; Harbor Drive in San Diego; and The Green Mile in Denver (legal marijuana) \u2014 was spurred by CNBC chairman Mark Hoffman.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a really great story,\u201d Lemonis says. \u201cMark and I have had a nice relationship for eight years now and we always love to go back on forth on different ways to feature entrepreneurs and how the American economy works.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe happ<\/a>ened to be bantering ideas back and forth and Mark was walking back from a meeting and called me from his cell. He said, \u2018I\u2019m walking down 47th Street. Have you ever wondered what it costs to buy a diamond?\u2019 He actually came up with the name of the series while he was walking and that\u2019s the genius of it all \u2014 at the end of the day we felt it was important, now more than ever, to lift up these folks that you don\u2019t hear about all the time: jewelers, musicians, restaurants, entrepreneurs \u2026 who make up the fabric of the American dream.\u201d <\/p>\n

Lemonis says the network decided to shoot the series in-house, rather than go to \u201csome giant LA production company,\u201d and chose Zero Point Zero, an award-winning New York-based production facility. \u201cWe went and got the best out there for these kinds of projects,\u201d he says. \u201cThey\u2019re a female-owned production company. They did \u2018Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown\u2019 and David Letterman\u2019s Netflix series [\u2018My Next Guest Needs No Introduction\u2019].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cStreets of Dreams\u201d began shooting in the fall of 2019 and halted production in early March amidst the industrywide COVID shutdown \u2014 just as a sixth episode, set in Philadelphia, was ramping up.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to make the series a little like a travel<\/a>ogue, where we\u2019re promoting the cities, streets and restaurants,\u201d Lemonis says. \u201cI met a lot of amazing people. I\u2019m from Miami and Mark has spent time there. Gloria Estefan and Pit Bull appear in that episode, and [former NFL star] Terrell Davis is in the Denver episode. He has a CBD product and\u2026 You\u2019ll see what happens on the Green Mile with all of its commerce.<\/p>\n

\u201cSan Diego has both a military connection and one of the oldest trades, fishermen, who converge in San Diego Bay, which is called the \u2018Blue Economy,\u2019 \u201d he says. I hope people enjoy [the series] and that it will be a bit of an escape.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was really a killer experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
