Nashville\u2019s mayor praised the police officers at Friday morning\u2019s explosion as \u201cincredible heroes\u201d who rushed toward danger to save lives.<\/p>\n

Mayor John Cooper said the six local cops took \u201cswift action\u201d to evacuate people in the city\u2019s downtown area as a parked RV blared a warning that a bomb would detonate in 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese incredible heroes who ran to danger with uncertain outcomes ahead of them were responsible for so many injuries being saved,\u201d Cooper said in an evening press conference.<\/p>\n

The brave cops \u201ctook swift action and directed people away to save lives \u2014 even at the time when their own lives would have been in peril.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are heroes and I am grateful to them.\u201d<\/p>\n

The officers had been responding to reports of \u201cshots fired\u201d in Nashville\u2019s downtown when they came upon the RV and heard the chilling recording.<\/p>\n

They evacuated nearby buildings and called the bomb squad \u2014 and the vehicle blew up shortly afterward.<\/p>\n

Three people were injured in the blast and were in stable condition, officials said.<\/p>\n

Human remains were found near the scene, CBS News<\/a> and The Associated Press reported, citing law enforcement sources.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not yet clear whether the remains are from someone connected to the blast or from a victim. Authorities haven\u2019t said whether anyone was in the vehicle when it blew up.<\/p>\n

Asked about the reports of remains, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake\u00a0said that \u201cwe have found tissues that we believe could be remains.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201ctissues\u201d still need to be examined, the chief told reporters.<\/p>\n

At least 41 buildings were damaged in the bombing, which officials have said was a deliberate act. Authorities said many people had been displaced.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning\u2019s attack on our community was intended to create chaos and fear in this season of hope,\u201d the mayor said.<\/p>\n

Authorities are \u201cnot going to rest until those responsible for this outrageous and cowardly attack are brought to justice,\u201d Cooper added.<\/p>\n

\u201cNashville\u2019s spirit can\u2019t be broken\u2026 We can rebuild and get back to normal.\u201d<\/p>\n

A curfew has been imposed in the area affected by the blast until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
