“#Gunman busted in NYPD cop ambush apologizes for shooting<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Brooklyn man who allegedly shot an NYPD cop in the back on Christmas Eve \u2014 but failed to wound his target thanks to a bulletproof vest \u2014 offered a feeble apology as he was led into court on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sorry, officer,\u201d muttered William Moss from behind a blue facemask, when asked by The Post if he had a message for Connor Boalick, the lawman whose life he nearly ended.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish it never happ<\/a>ened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Handcuffed and wearing a gray Nike hoodie, Moss voiced his sudden regret as he was led into Brooklyn Criminal Court to answer charges including attempted murder and assault.<\/p>\n

Moss, 20, allegedly fired two rounds into the back of Boalick around 9 p.m. Thursday, as the officer was taking a statement from Moss\u2019 girlfriend, according to cops and sources.<\/p>\n

Boalick and his partner were initially called out to the scene at Bergen Street and Ralph Avenue in Crown Heights because the woman accused Moss of threatening to shoot up her home, cops and sources have said.<\/p>\n

Thanks to his bulletproof vest, Boalick, 27, escaped the cowardly attack from behind virtually unscathed, even leaving Kings County Hospital on Christmas morning.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

While expressing gratitude that Boalick lived to tell the tale, Pat Lynch, the president of the Police Benevolent Association union, said at the hospital that lawmakers must help foster a pro-cop climate where criminals fear the consequences of shooting at the Finest.<\/p>\n

Save a summonses for smoking marijuana, Moss had not previously crossed paths with the NYPD, according to cops and sources.<\/p>\n

He is expected to be arraigned Christmas night.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
