I\u2019m thinking about making a career move, but doesn\u2019t everyone contemplating a new job hit the market early in the new year? Should I wait until later when there is less competition?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Can you predict the stock market? Cryptocurrency? The real estate market? Whether the Jets will win another game<\/a>? Many people \u201cthink\u201d about making a career change and often come up with all kinds of rationalizations why now is not the right time. When it comes to exploring new career opportunities there is no advantage to waiting. Just start. You don\u2019t know how long it will take, when the right situation will emerge, from where or how. Activate the process, update your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and LinkedIn profile and start networking. Keep the momentum going by scheduling some activity each week \u2014 reaching out to a new or existing contact, reviewing job postings online, sending inquiries. Stay positive and one day the effort will pay off, and it may be an opportunity that is surprising to you. Just like the Jets winning a game again. So stay open-minded.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think your recent response about whether employers can mandate a COVID vaccine was completely accurate. You seemed to be feeling your way. The people who may claim an exemption, like those with disabilities, are the people who need the vaccine the most. I\u2019m a health-care worker and as soon as the vaccine is available to me I will be sticking my arm out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I app<\/a>laud you for your service \u2014 front line health-care workers are the heroes of this time. However, your expertise is in health care, not labor law. Hospitals have long mandated the flu vaccine for employees, so they don\u2019t transmit the flu to high risk patients. Children are required to be vaccinated before attending school. However, there are laws that allow certain people to claim an exemption, whether due to disability or religious beliefs. Also, the COVID vaccine was approved for emergency use, so that creates another legal gray area, where we will be while laws are challenged in court. We\u2019re all feeling our way through this unchartered territory. Thank you again for your service. Stay safe out there.<\/p>\n
