Hilaria Baldwin has been forced to defend her fluctuating Spanish accent \u2014 and admitted that her name is \u201cHillary.\u201d<\/p>\n

The wife of Alec Baldwin took to Instagram<\/a> Sunday morning after a Twitter<\/a> storm erupted following a tweet which read: <\/a>\u201cYou have to admire Hilaria Baldwin\u2019s commitment to her decade long grift where she impersonates a Spanish person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin\u2019s own bio on her agency\u2019s speakers site<\/a> states that she was born on the island of Mallorca, Spain, and raised in Boston. Her 2016 interview with Hola! magazine also stated: \u201cHilaria, who was born in Spain, has made certain to raise her children with her native language, Spanish.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

During TV app<\/a>earances, she has spoken with a pronounced Spanish accent, and on one occasion during a cooking segment she even seemingly forgot <\/a>the English word for \u201ccucumber.\u201d <\/p>\n

However, the mother of five left fans confused when she broke out an American accent <\/a>on Instagram last week to bemoan body-shaming after Amy Schumer comedically posted a photo of Baldwin wearing lingerie and holding her newborn son Eduardo Pau Lucas.<\/p>\n

Internet sleuthing then alleged that Baldwin\u2019s real name is actually Hillary Hayword-Thomas, and that she grew up in Massachusetts. Former classmates came forward as one tweeted: \u201cI went to high school with her. Genuinely lovely person, I recall, but fully a white girl from Cambridge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cI went to high school with her. She was perfectly nice and serious about ballroom dancing. Her name was indeed Hillary Hayward-Thomas and she did not have her current accent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe she and her brother Jeremy (also nice) grew up in Boston and were white people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although Baldwin is listed as an alum of the Cambridge School of Weston School in Weston, Massachusetts, in April, she told \u201cMotherhood, Marriage & Miscarriages\u201d<\/a> that she moved to New York from Spain when she was 19 to attend NYU: \u201cI came for school and I never, ever left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if she would \u201cever want to move back\u201d to Mallorca, she replied: \u201cAll the time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin\u2019s parents, Dr. Kathryn Hayword and David Thomas, do\u00a0live on Mallorca after having left the States in 2011.<\/p>\n

The yoga teacher hit back on Sunday regarding her Spanish heritage via an Instagram video, in which she said: \u201cThere\u2019s some stuff that needs to be clarified,\u201d and, \u201cThere\u2019s been some questions about where I\u2019m born, I\u2019m born in Boston \u2026 I spent some of my childhood in Boston, some of my childhood in Spain, my family, my brother, my parents, my nephew, everybody is over there in Spain now, I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said that she grew up speaking both English and Spanish and is trying to raise her kids bilingual.<\/p>\n

Responding to questions about her accent, she said in the video: \u201cI am that person, if I\u2019ve been speaking a lot of Spanish, I tend to mix them or if I\u2019m speaking a lot of English I mix that, it\u2019s one of those things I\u2019ve always been a bit insecure about.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said she tries to \u201cenunciate\u201d for work, but added that if she becomes \u201cnervous or upset\u201d she starts to mix the two languages. \u201cIt\u2019s not something I\u2019m playing at \u2026 I want that to be very, very clear,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Discussing her name, she said: \u201cWhen I was growing up, in this country I would use the name Hillary, and in Spain I would use Hilaria and my family, my parents, call me Hilaria. She said that \u201cit always bothered\u201d her that neither name sounded good in both languages.<\/p>\n

A few years before meeting her famous husband, she said she \u201cconsolidated\u201d things as it became confusing, and that she uses the name Hilaria because that\u2019s what her family calls her.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the things I love about what my parents called me, it means happy in both languages, we can all be really clear that it\u2019s the same name, it\u2019s just a few letters different, we shouldn\u2019t be so upset about it,\u201d she said, adding: \u201cWhatever you guys want to call me I will respond to both.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added: \u201cUltimately, this boils down to this idea where this is a country of a lot of different cultures and I think that we can be different parts of ourselves with different people,\u201d and, \u201cI am somebody who I feel really lucky that I grew up with two cultures, I grew up speaking two languages.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said: \u201cYes I am a white girl, my family is white \u2026 Europe has a lot of white people in them. Ethnically I am a mix of many, many things.\u201d She also called herself a \u201cdifferent kind of Bostonian \u2026 you can\u2019t change your background and nor would I want to \u2026 this is who I am, and this is my life story \u2026 it\u2019s my weird mix of who I am.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baldwin later posted another Insta video, saying she will not apologize for living between two countries, having two cultures and speaking two languages \u2014 or spelling her name differently.<\/p>\n

She clarified that her mother is not Spanish as other reports have previously stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cI care because my thing is about being authentic\u00a0\u2014 and then if people say I\u2019m not being authentic\u00a0it hurts my feelings \u2026 I don\u2019t really understand why it\u2019s turning into such a big thing. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m getting attacked for being who I am\u2026people wanting to label\u00a0me Spanish or America, can\u2019t it be both? It\u2019s frustrating that is my story.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
