BlackRock Financial Management Inc., the $7.8 trillion asset manager, app<\/a>ears poised to expand its presence in blockchain and digital assets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to a new job posting, the company is recruiting<\/a> for the position of vice president, blockchain lead for its New York office. The person hired for this role will be tasked with creating and implementing \u201cstrategies designed to drive demand for the firm\u2019s offerings,\u201d as well as \u201cenhance the value proposition […] of the firm\u2019s investments and technology<\/a> offerings.\u201d <\/p>\n

The candidate must have at least one year of experience in blockchain business, including \u201ccryptographic hash functions, distributed network consensus mechanisms, and public-private key cryptography.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the job post doesn\u2019t specify any blockchain-related products under development at the firm, it\u2019s possible that BlackRock is positioning itself to meet growing institutional demand for digital assets. <\/p>\n

As Forbes reported<\/a> earlier this year, there\u2019s some evidence to suggest that investors are fleeing BlackRock\u2019s long-term investment products for crypto funds offered by Grayscale and others. This is part of a broader institutional pivot towards Bitcoin and other digital assets currently underway. <\/p>\n

After their initial skepticism, BlackRock\u2019s most senior executives have commented favorably on Bitcoin and the wider digital asset market. Larry Fink, the company\u2019s CEO, says Bitcoin has \u201ccaught the attention and the imagination of many people,\u201d including those who work at BlackRock. <\/p>\n

Rick Rieder, BlackRock\u2019s CIO of fixed income, says Bitcoin is not only here to stay, but that it will \u201ctake the place of gold to a large extent.\u201d <\/p>\n

BlackRock has indirect exposure to Bitcoin via MicroStrategy, the business intelligence firm that now holds<\/a> 70,470 BTC following a series<\/a> of purchases this year. <\/p>\n
