So it\u2019s no wonder that director\u00a0<strong>George C. Wolfe<\/strong> and producer\u00a0<strong>Denzel Washington<\/strong> wanted to put special care in bringing Wilson\u2019s stage play,\u00a0<strong><em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em><\/strong>, to the screen. In a new featurette, Wolfe, Washington, and the rest of the cast of Netflix\u2019s\u00a0<em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em> delve into Wilson\u2019s \u201ccrackling\u201d dialogue and lyrical writing, and how they set about adapting it for the screen. Check out the video below.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ma_Raineys_Black_Bottom_Featurette\"><\/span>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom Featurette<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Stage to Screen | Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom | Netflix\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7cZSAKeGye0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->\u201cHe was called the American Shakespeare,\u201d Washington said of Wilson, whose classic play\u00a0<em>Fences<\/em> would earn Washington an Oscar nomination for his 2016 feature film adaptation. But even with works as great as Shakespeare\u2019s, filmmakers have to be careful so as to not make a feature adaptation feel too much like a play, which Wolfe, Washington, and star <strong>Viola Davis<\/strong> put a lot of care into. Wolfe wanted the film to \u201cfeel cinematic,\u201d while retaining the spirit of Wilson\u2019s play, which Davis and the rest of the cast praise him for being able to pull off.<\/p>\n<p>The featurette is also full of scenes centering around\u00a0<strong>Chadwick Boseman<\/strong>\u2018s trumpeter Levee, in the star\u2019s final feature film role, for which he\u2019s earning posthumous Oscar buzz. It\u2019s always bittersweet to see Boseman again, but the searing performance he gives in these short scenes, which show the dialogue onscreen next to him, is amazing to watch. Davis too, is a powerhouse in the short scenes in the featurette, which comes a little late \u2014 the film already debuted on the streamer 10 days ago.<\/p>\n<p>George C. Wolfe\u00a0directs <em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom<\/em> from\u00a0a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a> by<strong>\u00a0Ruben Santiago-Hudson<\/strong>. The film also stars\u00a0<strong>Glynn Turman<\/strong>, <strong>Colman Domingo<\/strong>, and <strong>Michael Potts<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ma Rainey\u2019s Black Bottom\u00a0<\/em>is streaming on Netflix right now.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Tensions and temperatures rise over the course of an afternoon recording session in 1920s Chicago as a band of musicians await trailblazing performer, the legendary \u201cMother of the Blues,\u201d Ma Rainey (Academy Award\u00ae winner Viola Davis).
