rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.voiscooters.com\/\">Voi<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>is adding computer vision <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> to its e-scooters to automatically reduce speeds when they enter heavily pedestrianized areas.<\/p>\n<p>The firm has partnered with Irish tech startup<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/luna.systems\/\">Luna<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>to implement the technology, which comprises high-end camera sensors.<\/p>\n<p>Algorithms interpret input from these sensors, and the data is processed using edge computing \u2013 an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach where data crunching is carried out closer to the location it is needed to reduce latency.<\/p>\n<p>The technology will also be able to detect the surface that an e-scooter is being ridden on, such as a bike lane or pavement, and adjust its speed accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Fredrik Hjelm, Co-Founder and CEO of Voi Technology, said: \u201cWe are embracing pioneering technology like this so that we can help shape cities for living, and to ensure that municipal authorities feel confident in including e-scooters as part of their smart city strategies.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"UK_trials\"><\/span>UK trials<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Trials of the new solution are currently underway in the UK city of Northampton, and the first phase will see local\u00a0Voi staff fit scooters with the technology, so they can learn their environment.<\/p>\n<p>Once this phase is complete, the technology will be integrated into Voi\u2019s e-scooters for public use in the city.<\/p>\n<p>Northampton\u2019s e-scooter trial is part of a UK-wide government-led initiative to test the effectiveness of e-scooters in UK cities.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cities-today.com\/london-set-for-uks-largest-e-scooter-trials\/\">Last week<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>Transport for London (TfL) launched a competition to determine which three e-scooter firms will take part in its trial, set to launch next spring.<\/p>\n<p>Ensuring safety has become a critical feature of the UK trials, with e-scooter firms introducing features like<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.link.city\/\">one-second geofencing<\/a>\u00a0technology and<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cities-today.com\/silent-e-scooters-fitted-with-artificial-noise-to-warn-pedestrians\/\">artificial sounds<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>to warn pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p>UK motoring association<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theaa.com\/\">The AA<\/a>\u00a0has also teamed up with German e-scooter firm<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tier.app\/\">TIER Mobility<\/a>\u00a0to run\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tier.app\/tier-partners-with-aa-drivetech\/\">road safety lessons<\/a>, where e-scooter riders will be taught how to operate and park the vehicles and share the road safely with cars, pedestrians , and vulnerable users.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Micromobility_safety\"><\/span><strong>Micromobility safety<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>While the safety of e-scooters has come under heavy scrutiny in recent years,<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.itf-oecd.org\/sites\/default\/files\/docs\/safe-micromobility_1.pdf\">research<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has found they are not any more dangerous than other forms of micromobility, including bicycles and e-bikes.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, the Dutch government successfully piloted a safety feature designed to limit the speed of e-bikes on a four-kilometer stretch of bike lanes at Schiphol airport, Amsterdam.<\/p>\n<p>Using digital technology, the motor of the e-bikes cuts out when the devices enter built-up areas.<\/p>\n<p>The non-profit<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.townmaking.com\/\">Townmaking Institute<\/a>, which is behind the concept, is working with e-bike firms and government authorities with the expectation that the technology could be rolled out by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions over the use of the technology are most advanced with the municipality of Amsterdam, but the provinces of Gelderland and North Holland are also said to have shown an interest.<\/p>\n<p>The standard e-bike reaches speeds of 20-25 km\/h, but faster-advanced models can reach 80\u00a0km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, 65 people were killed while riding e-bikes in the Netherlands, up from 57 in 2018.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\"
