It was a cygnet failure. <\/p>\n

A broken-hearted swan mourning its dead mate recently brought trains to a halt for almost an hour on a high-speed rail line in central Germany, according to reports.<\/p>\n

The sad swan refused to abandon the tracks for 50 minutes on Dec. 23 after its companion flew into the overhead electric line above and died, the Guardian said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Swans typically mate for life, according to Agence France-Presse<\/a> \u2014 making the partner\u2019s death all the more crushing.<\/p>\n

The grieving fowl \u201csat beside the body in mourning, resisting attempts by officials to lure it away,\u201d according to the French wire service. Twenty-three trains were delayed as a result.<\/p>\n

Firefighters eventually caught the bird and released it into the Fulda River.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
