Like many of us, Cardi B wants to wash away the stink of 2020 with a good, old-fashioned liquor buzz. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat do you guys recommend for hangovers?,\u201d Cardi,<\/a> 28, posted early Wednesday<\/a> to her 15.9 million Twitter<\/a> followers with a pair of laughing and crying emojis. \u201cI\u2019m trying to see double on New Year\u2019s Eve but I want to be good In the a.m.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cI Like It\u201d rapp<\/a>er\u2019s unofficial social-media experts flooded her with thousands of home-remedy hangover cures, suggesting everything<\/a> from bananas to coconut water to pickle juice. One fella even proffered<\/a> a wholesome \u201cglass of chocolate milk with ice.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the hot tip that promptly erupted to the top<\/a> of trending Twitter topics? A popular nutritional supplement<\/a> often chugged by babies. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe fact that @iamcardib has Pedialyte trending is right on brand for 2020 LOL,\u201d one amused fan quipped<\/a> to the Grammy-winning mama of 2-year-old daughter Kulture.<\/p>\n

\u201cGatorade\/Powerade\/Pedialyte\/any electrolytes BEFORE drinking and the next morning,\u201d another wise sage advised<\/a>.\u201d Full stomach of good s \u2013 \u2013 t (like, vegetables or fruits or dairy or protein) a few hours before. A little coffee or caffeine during always helps me too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPedialyte \u2014 they make that s \u2013 \u2013 t for us now!\u201d hyped another helpful fan<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Said fan is correct: It\u2019s not just for babies anymore.<\/p>\n

After years as a semi-underground hangover elixir, the parental staple for fighting infant dehydration started being aggressively marketed for adults who indulge in holiday booze binges way back in 2018<\/p>\n

That\u2019s when Pedialyte started touting powdered drink packets in cherry and grape flavors. Just add water and experience the \u201cPedialyte Sparkling Rush\u201d <\/a>that will \u201chelp prevent dehydration caused by vomiting, diarrhea, exercise, travel<\/a>, and heat exhaustion.\u201d<\/p>\n

A glaring omission in the above list: hard holiday drinking, as evidenced by Pedialyte\u2019s Twitter, where followers have long taken to posting pics of their heavily branded\u00a0New Year\u2019s Eve Pedialyte survival kits<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Many of the online brand ambassadors (a k a hard-drinking adults) point to Pedialyte\u2019s\u00a0claims that it works better<\/a>\u00a0than most sports drinks because it contains two times more electrolytes and two times less sugar. The sugar in\u00a0Gatorade, Powerade and Vitaminwater<\/a>\u00a0can actually make symptoms worse.<\/p>\n

\u201cLosing water also means losing electrolytes \u2014 essential minerals like sodium and potassium that are responsible for maintaining proper fluid levels in your body, balancing your blood\u2019s pH levels, and firing signals to your nerves and muscles,\u201d\u00a0reported Abbott<\/a>, the manufacturer of Pedialyte, upon the product\u2019s launch.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a reason so many turn to Pedialyte when they need help hydrating \u2014 it works,\u201d said Jennifer Williams, a research scientist at Abbott who specializes in hydration, at the time. \u201cPedialyte is so effective because the levels of electrolytes and carbohydrate are optimal for rehydration.\u201d<\/p>\n
