{"id":144248,"date":"2020-12-30T19:18:42","date_gmt":"2020-12-30T16:18:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/hilaria-baldwin-doubles-down-on-spanish-heritage-scandal-defense-tells-the-new-york-times-she-did-nothing-wrong\/"},"modified":"2020-12-30T19:18:42","modified_gmt":"2020-12-30T16:18:42","slug":"hilaria-baldwin-doubles-down-on-spanish-heritage-scandal-defense-tells-the-new-york-times-she-did-nothing-wrong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/hilaria-baldwin-doubles-down-on-spanish-heritage-scandal-defense-tells-the-new-york-times-she-did-nothing-wrong\/","title":{"rendered":"#Hilaria Baldwin Doubles Down On Spanish Heritage Scandal Defense, Tells The New York Times She Did Nothing Wrong!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Hilaria Baldwin Doubles Down On Spanish Heritage Scandal Defense, Tells The New York Times She Did Nothing Wrong!<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div itemprop=\"articleBody\" class=\"text\">\n<strong>Hilaria Baldwin<\/strong> \u2014 or should we say <em>Hillary<\/em> \u2014 just can\u2019t seem to leave well enough alone.<\/p>\n<p>After getting called out for lying about her Spanish heritage, <strong>Alec Baldwin<\/strong>\u2018s wife has already spent a lot of time insisting she never lied at all, and that she\u2019s always been honest about being born in Boston, in spite of the mountain of evidence online that says otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Alec Baldwin Tells Critic To \u2018Go F**k Yourself\u2019 Amid Ongoing \u2018Spanish\u2019 Scandal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>arently, her <strong>Instagram<\/strong> defense wasn\u2019t enough because the mother of five sat down with <em>The<\/em> <em>New York Times<\/em> \u201cto clarify for people who have been confused.\u201d Because again, it\u2019s our fault for being confused, despite clips like this (from an interview that happened earlier this year):<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Hilaria Baldwin went on the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/momtruths?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#momtruths<\/a> podcast in April 2020 and said she didn\u2019t move to the US until she was 19 to go to NYU <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/s1BojT4XAH\">pic.twitter.com\/s1BojT4XAH<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 #1 Rachel (@rachel) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rachel\/status\/1343063509941235712?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 27, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Notice how she doesn\u2019t outright lie, and yet her wording is deliberately misleading to make the audience think she moved to New York from Spain. You can see how we might get \u201cconfused\u201d!<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Hilaria told the <em>NYT<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt\u2019s very surreal. There is not something I\u2019m doing wrong, and I think there is a difference between hiding and creating a boundary.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe things I have shared about myself are very clear. I was born in Boston. I spent time in Boston and in Spain. My family now lives in Spain. I moved to New York when I was 19 years old and I have lived here ever since. For me, I feel like I have spent 10 years sharing that story over and over again. And now it seems like it\u2019s not enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>For some reason, not talking about her Boston upbringing is \u201ccreating a boundary,\u201d and according to the <em>Times<\/em>, a way for her to avoid \u201c[intruding] upon her parents\u2019 privacy.\u201d Yet frequently bringing up how her family (currently) lives in Mallorca <em>isn\u2019t<\/em> an invasion of their privacy. Nor was it an invasion of privacy when she claimed to <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> Spain that her New England-born parents couldn\u2019t pronounce the name \u201cBaldwin\u201d:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here says, that she learnt to spell her new surname whe she got married, and that her parents didn&#8217;t understood her until the third time she pronounced it.<\/p>\n<p>Apologize my grammar mistakes, I&#8217;m a real spanish.???????????????? <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FEOd7gWxo2\">pic.twitter.com\/FEOd7gWxo2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Yes Sir I Can Boogie (@booogiebooo) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/booogiebooo\/status\/1343664478345457667?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 28, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"highlight\">Interesting how that works!<\/p>\n<p>The 36-year-old claimed she told her husband<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Alec she was from Boston the first night they met \u2014 despite the fact he said she was \u201cfrom Spain\u201d during a past<strong> David Letterman<\/strong> appearance. As recently as this week, the <em>30 Rock<\/em> star tweeted that she \u201clived in Spain for many years as a child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you wanted to know exactly how many years, though, Hilaria won\u2019t tell you:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI think it would be maddening to do such a tight time line of everything. You know, sometimes there was school involved. Sometimes it was vacation. It was such a mix, mishmash, is that the right word? Like a mix of different things.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mix, mishmash, cucumber \u2014 we all forget words sometimes! (She called the cucumber issue a \u201cbrain fart,\u201d BTW.) Regarding her mysterious accent, she explained to the outlet that \u201cshe speaks English with varying degrees of a Spanish accent depending on how happy or upset she is feeling,\u201d which is not how <em>we<\/em> thought accents work, but sure, why not. (As for going by \u201cHilaria\u201d rather than her given name, \u201cHillary,\u201d she \u201cchose\u201d the name as an adult because it was what \u201cshe had been called\u2026 by family members most of her life.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Amy Schumer Apologizes For Joke After Hilaria Complains Of \u2018Body Shaming\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, what about the other accusations thrown out online? Well, she \u201crarely at all [works] with CAA,\u201d the agency that claimed she was born in Mallorca, nor did she read the (multiple) <em>\u00a1Hola!<\/em> article(s) that called her a Spanish native. According to her, these fall under the category of \u201cpeople misrepresenting me,\u201d something that she seems to do well enough on her own. As to her big Spanish family who she claimed were at her wedding, Baldwin said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThese people who I call my family, I am learning in this particular situation, I have to say, \u2018People who we have considered to be our family.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>She went on to say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhere is the smoking gun? My intentions are I\u2019m living my life and my life is created by my parents, my different experiences, my languages, my culture and, yeah, my kids do have very Spanish-influenced names. You want to know what? Their names are after people who were important to me, they\u2019re not names that we pulled out of a hat. All my kids\u2019 given names, the first names, are all from people in my life, and they have my husband\u2019s last name. And we were very thoughtful about it. Especially the second name, sometimes the first name is something that sounds for me, good in both languages.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u201csmoking guns\u201d can be found in long <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a><\/strong> threads and Instagram Stories, if you want to see exactly how clear it was that the yoga instructor was intentionally leading people to believe she was Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>Was it \u201cwrong\u201d of her to do so? It wasn\u2019t illegal, but you can ask actual immigrants about their experiences coming to America with an accent, having non-English sounding names, and how they were treated. Maybe it wasn\u2019t actively harmful, but it was in EXTREMELY poor taste.
