\n A new photograph taken in Scotland has reignited speculation over the existence of the legendary Loch Ness Monster.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s probably just a big catfish.<\/p>\n

English tourist Steve Challice said he shot the image in September while visiting Urquhart Castle on the shores of the famed Scottish loch, capturing what he described as a long fish swimming by, the Daily Record reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cI started taking a couple of shots and then this big fish came to the surface and then went back down,\u201d Challice told the outlet. \u201cIt only app<\/a>eared in one shot and to be honest that was something of a fluke. I watched for a while as you can see from the last picture but didn\u2019t see it again.\u201d<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t until the recent coronavirus lockdown that he had time to go over his hundreds of vacation snapshots and posted the fishy photo online \u2014 sparking new speculation by conspiracy theorists that he had the latest snapshot of the elusive creature.<\/p>\n

Challice, however, believes it was just a catfish.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy guess would be that what I captured was a catfish or something like that,\u201d he told the Record. \u201cAs seals get in from the sea then I expected that\u2019s what it is and that would explain why these sightings are so few and far between.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Loch Ness Monster, known as \u201cNessie\u201d in popular culture, is one of Scotland\u2019s oldest myths. Only a handful of photographs of the alleged prehistoric creature have come to light over the decades, but many have been dubbed hoaxes.<\/p>\n

Roland Watson, who runs the website Loch Ness Mystery Blog said Challice\u2019s photograph, if it\u2019s legit, would be among the top three images of Nessie ever made public. But Watson also believes it\u2019s just a massive catfish.<\/p>\n

\u201cI continued to talk to Steve, the photographer, but that has come to an end as he could not provide the original SD car image,\u201d Watson wrote.<\/p>\n

He said he compared an image of freakishly large 280-pound catfish and saw a match to Challice\u2019s pic.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you can see, the spots on the catfish all line up nicely with the spots on our Nessie,\u201d Watson wrote. \u201cThe case is closed but I will write a follow up article on photoshopped images as I feel there are some deficiencies in how we approach this subject.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
