At least that way they could lead to smart replies and even advocacy. Deleting them felt like whitewashing a mistake,\u201d he continued. \u201cBut I think that practice may have given the impression I stand by every failed joke I\u2019ve ever posted here. Not at all!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Presumably, he <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/11\/25\/jeopardy-star-ken-jennings-under-fire-for-resurfaced-tweet\/?_ga=2.58081775.41688902.1609169384-82144234.1584571679\">was referencing a now-deleted 2014 post<\/a> that read, \u201cNothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair,\u201d which caught the ire of Twitter users in 2018 and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KenJennings\/status\/987423884436647936\">led to him expressing<\/a> \u201cregret\u201d after a \u201cpublic flogging.\u201d And in 2015, he joked about a \u201cStar Wars\u201d fan \u2014 who had terminal cancer \u2014 who went to see the franchise entry \u201cThe Force Awakens\u201d before he died. \u201cIt can\u2019t be a good sign that every fan who has seen the new Star Wars movie died shortly thereafter,\u201d Jennings wrote at the time. <\/p>\n<p>In Wednesday\u2019s tweets, Jennings seemed ready to move on ahead of his new gig: Next week he will start as a fill-in for \u201cJeopardy!\u201d host Alex Trebek, who <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/11\/08\/alex-trebek-iconic-jeopardy-host-dead-at-80\/\">died of pancreatic cancer<\/a> at age 80 in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes I said dumb things in a dumb way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightfully!) offended,\u201d he continued in his apology. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t my intention to hurt anyone, but that doesn\u2019t matter: I screwed up, and I\u2019m truly sorry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf 2020 has taught us anything, it\u2019s that we should be kinder to one another,\u201d he added, finishing with, \u201cI look forward to heading into 2021 with that in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While some fans <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lauded him for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeyondSafewords\/status\/1344366500816289793\">\u201cowning his s\u2013t\u201d<\/a> via the thread, others saw it simply as an opportune time to express regret, with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FIGJAM2099\/status\/1344349933470707718\">one person suggesting<\/a>, \u201cThe preemptive apology for old tweets before getting the Jeopardy gig. Smart,\u201d and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kingofdroll\/status\/1344350487102029824\">another asking<\/a>, \u201cis this step 1 of formally accepting the jeopardy gig?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neither Jennings \u2014 who was crowned the \u201cGreatest of All Time\u201d player on \u201cJeopardy!\u201d early this year \u2014 nor any other celeb has been confirmed as a permanent replacement for Trebek, whose final shows will air from Jan. 4 to 8.
