Countless ceremonies have been canceled and postponed. Businesses impacted range from sidewalk flower sellers outside shuttered City Hall in downtown Manhattan to venues, hotels and honeymoon suites around the five boroughs and beyond.<\/p>\n<p> But the coronavirus hasn\u2019t changed the fact New Year\u2019s Eve is a popular day to get married. The built-in promise of renewal around the corner, the festive special sparkle of the season and, of course, the potential financial benefits of filing a joint tax return are some explanations for the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       \u201cIt\u2019s already a party. People are ready to celebrate,\u201d said the Rev. Annie Lawrence, 52, a New York City wedding officiant who carried out her 2,000th marriage in mid-December.<\/p>\n<p>Olga Tsoupros, 44, who lives in Queens and teaches fourth grade at P.S. 83 in Manhattan, had her heart set on tying the knot with Philip Kontonicolas, 35, who works for the Long Island Rail Road, on New Year\u2019s Eve. On Thursday afternoon in Astoria Park, they exchanged \u201cI do\u2019s.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The bride wore a white suit. \u201cI bought it yesterday at Express,\u201d Tsoupros said on Wednesday. The groom wore a gray suit. The couple\u2019s family members looked on during the short, simple ceremony in view of the East River.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, she\u2019s made arrangements for a more formal New Year\u2019s Eve wedding in the Bahamas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou get to start a new life and a new year at the same time,\u201d said Tsoupros, who got engaged on June 21. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be happier about getting married on the last day of the year. I didn\u2019t think it was going to be possible this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To get married, you need a license, a process that currently requires an appointment through Project Cupid \u2014 a virtual license appointment system set up in April after the NYC Marriage Bureau closed due to the pandemic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since it launched, there\u2019s been a logjam for appointments, even with the help of the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NYCClerk\" class=\"icon none\">NYC CityClerk Clerk twitter account<\/a>, which posts weekly updates about when they become available.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI waited for months for an appointment,\u201d said Tsoupros, adding that she booked one a few weeks ago. \u201cIt was like winning a prize.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>To capture the moment, Tsoupros searched online and reached out to wedding photographer Kristy May, 41, who became an officiant this year through the Universal Life Church.<\/p>\n<p>Ordination \u201cis new for me this year,\u201d said May, who\u2019s been snapping happy couples for over a decade. \u201cI lost a wedding to a photographer who was also an officiant in July. They had a competitive edge. They were married via Zoom<br \/>\n        ZM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/211319643\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-4.55%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       on Thursday from their home in Long Island City, Queens.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Glander wore a white ModCloth dress that \u201cfelt casual and appropriate,\u201d she said, and carried flowers her father, who lives in White Plains, dropped off along with bagels, lox and champagne. Butler pulled out a blue suit from the closet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They secured a license after three weeks of trying and opted for New Year\u2019s Eve nuptials. Rev. Annie, as Lawrence is known, officiated.
