Apple is working on a settlement with a fledgling meal-prep company whose pear logo it sought to bar for being too similar to its own famous emblem. <\/p>\n

Prepear\u2019s logo \u2014 a pear with a leaf on top \u2014 \u201creadily calls to mind Apple\u2019s famous Apple Logo and creates a similar commercial impression,\u201d the Silicon Valley giant said in\u00a0a court filing over the summer, adding that the similarities would \u201ccause the ordinary consumer to believe\u201d that Prepear is \u201caffiliated with or endorsed by Apple.\u201d<\/p>\n

But in a filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office\u2019s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board first reported by MacRumors<\/a>, Apple asked for the proceedings to be suspended for 30 days while \u201cthe parties are actively engaged in negotiations for the settlement of this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n

Super Healthy Kids \u2014 the company behind the Prepear app, which lets people store recipes and create meal plans \u2014 had accused Apple of \u201cabusing their position of power by going after small businesses like ours who are already struggling due to the effects of Covid-19,\u201d and pledged to fight Apple \u201cnot only to keep our logo, but to send a message to big tech companies that bullying small businesses has consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n

The startup started a\u00a0Change.org campaign<\/a>\u00a0in August with the hopes of getting Apple to back off. The petition has already garnered 269,000 signatures. <\/p>\n

If the two sides can\u2019t reach an agreement, the dispute will resume on Jan. 23, with the first court appearances set for March. <\/p>\n

Apple did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to a request for comment.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
