\u201cThe Late Late Show\u201d host James Corden says he is \u201chomesick\u201d for his native England \u2014 so much so that he may head back there when his contract expires in August 2022.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a couple of years to go on this contract. Ending the show will always be a bigger family decision than a professional one,\u201d Corden, who re-upped in 2019<\/a>, recently told the Sun<\/a>. \u201cIt will be about people at home who we miss very, very much, who we are homesick for. I also feel like my wife and I have three young children, and they are three young grandchildren that we\u2019ve taken away from people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Corden and his wife, Julia, have three children \u2014 son Max, 9, and daughters Carey, 6, and Charlotte, 3 \u2014 and relocated to LA when he nabbed the hosting gig after a successful, decades-long TV, film and theater career in the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis probably feels particularly magnified now during the pandemic, but I have an overwhelming feeling that our family has walked to the beat of my drum for a very long time,\u201d said Corden, 42, who took over hosting \u201cThe Late Late Show\u201d from Craig Ferguson in March 2015.<\/p>\n

Coronavirus crisis aside, Corden has weathered an oddly bumpy 2020. In early December, he was criticized for his \u201cbland\u201d and \u201ctruly disgusting\u201d<\/a> portrayal of a gay man in the Netflix adaption<\/a> of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical \u201cThe Prom.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

In October, comedia<\/a>n Eric Andre responded to rumors of \u201cmean\u201d behavior by beleaguered daytime talker Ellen DeGeneres by slamming Corden, saying, \u201cIs that what cancel culture\u2019s devolved to? \u2018That guy\u2019s not nice!\u2019 James Corden is f\u2009-\u2009-ked if that\u2019s the only criteria to get called out.\u201d (That was just two months after his name was floated as a possible replacement for DeGeneres.)<\/p>\n

And in September, a \u201cLate Late Show\u201d executive drew fire from One Direction fans when he posted \u2014 and then deleted \u2014 previously unseen footage of the boy band during a 2015 segment of Corden\u2019s popular \u201cCarpool Karaoke\u201d bit.<\/p>\n

Speaking of \u201cCarpool Karaoke,\u201d viewers were shocked<\/a> to learn that Corden doesn\u2019t actually drive the car when filming those segments, as witnessed by a bystander who spotted Corden and Justin Bieber tooling around in LA in a Range Rover pulled by a truck earlier this year.<\/p>\n

But amid all the drama that surrounded him this year, at least Corden kept a sense of humor. As part of a skit during the 2020 Oscars in February, he and fellow \u201cCats\u201d star Rebel Wilson poked fun at the creepy CGI fur (and airbrushed bulges) in the movie musical (which, by the way, Corden had zero interest<\/a> in actually seeing himself).\u00a0<\/p>\n

In January, Corden also admitted that<\/a> when he starred in the successful UK series<\/a> \u201cGavin & Stacey\u201d in 2007, success went to his head and he \u201cstarted to behave like a brat\u201d due to his sudden upgraded status.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s so intoxicating, that first flush of fame, and I think it\u2019s even more intoxicating if you\u2019re not bred for it,\u201d he told The New Yorker, adding that his changed attitude pushed him to see a therapist. \u201cI used to be a better person than this,\u201d he reportedly told the shrink in his first session.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
