Proposed changes to the rules of the House of Representatives would \u201chonor all gender identities\u201d by eliminating such specific terms as mother and father, son and daughter, and aunt and uncle.<\/p>\n

Instead, only gender-neutral terms such as \u201cparent,\u201d \u201cchild,\u201d \u201csibling\u201d and \u201cparent\u2019s sibling\u201d would be allowed in the text of the House rules, according to the proposed changes.<\/p>\n

The proposed changes<\/a> \u2014 which also include the establishment of a House \u201cOffice of Diversity and Inclusion\u201d \u2014 will be voted on after the House convenes Sunday for the new 117th Congress.<\/p>\n

Another rules change would prevent Republicans from amending a bill at the last minute<\/a>, the Washington Examiner reported.<\/p>\n

Instead, such proposed changes would send the bill back to committee, effectively killing it, the Examiner noted. <\/p>\n

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that\u2019s needed so that last minute bill changes \u2014 known as Motions to Recommit \u2014 are \u201cno longer used to hijack the legislative process for political game<\/a>smanship.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new rules will make the House \u201cthe most inclusive in history,\u201d Pelosi said in announcing the proposed changes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But the gender-neutralizing move \u2014 a nod to the transgender and non-binary community \u2014 was widely mocked on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs you can see, Congress really has their finger on the pulse of America,\u201d the conservative Daily Caller snarked on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis some sort of plan to generate confusion via obfuscation?\u201d @tweeting_chance responded to the tweet<\/a>. \u201cDon\u2019t we have enough of that already in our legislation?\u201d<\/p>\n

Other changes would remove floor privileges from former House members convicted of crimes related to their House service or election and would make it a violation of the Code of Official Conduct for a house member or employee to disclose the identity of a whistleblower.<\/p>\n

House members and their employees would also be banned from disseminating \u201cmanipulated media,\u201d including \u201cdeepfakes.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
