“#Jets got ‘lucky’ to avoid COVID-19 outbreak<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Jets got through their final practice of the season Friday without returning any more positive COVID-19 tests.<\/p>\n

Adam Gase didn\u2019t want to fully pat the organization on the back just yet ahead of Sunday\u2019s season finale against the Patriots, but the Jets are on track to finish the regular season with just one player testing positive in rookie running back La\u2019Mical Perine earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think they did a good job,\u201d Gase said Friday. \u201cWe got a little lucky in the aspect of, we didn\u2019t lose a ton of guys in the middle of the season. I mean, we still got a couple days to go, I don\u2019t want to get too far ahead after seeing what happ<\/a>ened to Cleveland last week. I think guys have tried to do the right things, hopefully we can just finish it off the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jets have had their fair share of injuries, but they haven\u2019t been ransacked by COVID-19 the way some other teams have \u2014 either through multiple positive tests or positive tests and other high-risk close contacts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know what I expected, to be honest with you,\u201d Gase said. \u201cI knew it was going to be challenging because you\u2019re at the mercy of something you can\u2019t really see. You never knew when you were going to walk in, like the other day, where they\u2019re like, \u2018Hey, these six guys we\u2019re holding out and they\u2019re all starters on your defense.\u2019 Or what Cleveland went through last week where it\u2019s Saturday, you\u2019re getting ready to take off for another city and they\u2019re like, \u2018Yep, all these all these guys are out.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a valuable learning experience to say the least.\u201d<\/p>\n

After being designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, right guard Greg Van Roten (toe) has a chance to be activated for Sunday\u2019s game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s definitely a possibility,\u201d Gase said.<\/p>\n

It would be a timely return, with Van Roten\u2019s backup, Josh Andrews, going on injured reserve this week. Conor McDermott filled in for Andrews when he got injured last Sunday against the Browns.<\/p>\n
