Mayor Bill de Blasio is still facing heat \u2014 and not just from Andy Cohen<\/a> \u2014 for dancing with his wife early New Year\u2019s Day in Times Square after the public was barred from gathering there due to COVID-19 restrictions.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The mayor became an easy target after his office tweeted a clip<\/a> of de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray moving on a stage to Frank Sinatra\u2019s \u201cNew York, New York,\u201d after the ball dropped in the Crossroads of the World to ring in 2021. <\/p>\n

Meghan McCain, co-host of \u201cThe View,\u201d has now joined in slamming the display, calling it \u201ctone deaf.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve always been basically the worst political in modern history \u2013 but shutting down the NYC [and] having your own private party in Times Square is really *chefs kiss* the most tone deaf thing I may have ever seen a Mayor do. Everyone hates you DeBlasio,\u201d McCain tweeted<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another woman accused de Blasio on Twitter of<\/a> \u201cOpenly mocking the citizens of New York who are prohibited from being on Times Square whilst you dance in the space created by restricting the riffraff.\u201d<\/p>\n

And a third Twitter<\/a> user said<\/a>, \u201cComplete lack of self-awareness. Embarrassing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Early New Year\u2019s Day, Cohen app<\/a>eared to kick off the criticism against de Blasio, first downing a shot of tequila live on CNN.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s how I felt when I saw Mayor de Blasio dancing just now,\u201d he said. \u201cI just don\u2019t need to see that in the beginning of 2021,\u201d Cohen said. <\/p>\n

A spokesperson for de Blasio brushed off the insult to Fox News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the first time I\u2019ve heard a drunk person complain about someone\u2019s dance moves,\u201d a rep told the outlet.<\/p>\n

Times Square resembled a ghost town on Thursday night, the first time in 114 years the New Year\u2019s Eve spectacular was held without the general<\/a> public present.<\/p>\n

De Blasio and McCray had been on hand at the low-key celebration to initiate the traditional ball drop at midnight.<\/p>\n

Performers and several hundred first responders were also allowed in the area.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
