A third suspect has been charged in connection with the 2017 murder of Egypt Covington, who was found in dead and tied up by Christmas lights in Van Buren Township, Michigan, in 2017, the Detroit Free Press<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

Before she was found bound by Christmas lights, Egypt Covington, 27, was a beloved singer who achieved renown in the university town of Ann Arbor.<\/p>\n

The 34th District Court in Romulus, Michigan, arraigned Shandon Groom on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Groom was charged in connection with Egypt Covington\u2019s Christmas lights\u2013entangled death.<\/p>\n

Shandon Groom, 28, of Toledo, Ohio, was arraigned Thursday in 34th District Court in Romulus in the death of 27-year-old Covington, Michigan State Police 1st\u00a0 Lt. Michael Shaw said.<\/p>\n

Timothy Moore, also of Toledo, was previously charged in connection with Egypt Covington\u2019s death and binding by the Christmas lights.<\/p>\n

The two men were arraigned in November and December, 2020, respectively.<\/p>\n

According to WDIV in Detroit<\/a>, Groom was charged with felony murder.<\/p>\n

On Dec. 31, the Wayne County Prosecutor charged Shandon Ray Groom, 28, of Toledo, Ohio, with felony murder and first-degree home invasion in connection with the Egypt Covington case.<\/p>\n

There is also a fourth, still-unidentified suspect in the case of Egypt Covington\u2019s Christmas lights murder. That person was arrested but hasn\u2019t been charged, according to the Free Press.<\/p>\n

Egypt Covington\u2019s boyfriend found her shot to death and bound by Christmas lights in her home in Van Buren Township on June 23, 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Local police cultivated a belief that the singer\u2019s killers knew her personally, though police have been tight-lipped on an exact motive.<\/p>\n

The Detroit News<\/a> reported that Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw said the Covington case is \u201cstill an open investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re working on it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Evans got slapped with the same charges as Groom in connection with the death of Egypt Covington and the alleged binding of her body with Christmas lights.<\/p>\n

In addition to her pursuits as a songstress, Egypt Covington worked as an account manager for a wine and beer importer and distributor. The last time she was seen alive before her Christmas lights\u2013wrapped body was found was June 22, 2017.<\/p>\n

All three men charged in connection with her tragic and violent demise are being held in the jail in Wayne County, Michigan without bond, MLive<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

Groom and Evans are slated for a probable cause conference hearing on January 13.<\/p>\n
