A California woman at an outdoor New Year\u2019s Eve celebration was struck in the head by a stray bullet fired by a gun-toting reveler who fired into the air, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The woman was in a friend\u2019s back yard in Fresno when the stray bullet fell from the sky, hitting her on the head just after midnight, KFSN reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shay Orozco, who hosted the party, recalled wishing everyone a happ<\/a>y new year when she noticed her friend\u2019s head bleeding. <\/p>\n

The unidentified woman was taken to a local hospital and was released that same day. <\/p>\n

Fresno police said about 1,700 shots were fired between 6:00 p.m. on New Year\u2019s Eve and 6:00 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Day. <\/p>\n

Police say they\u2019re trying to track down the alleged shooter through technology<\/a> that scans gunfire activity in the area. <\/p>\n

Orozco said hearing gunshots in her neighborhood around New Year\u2019s is nothing new. <\/p>\n

\u201cYou hear every year, you know you hear the gunshots, you hear that people are outside shooting, but you never really think about what happens when the bullet drops,\u201d she told KFSN\n <\/p><\/div>\n
