GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler sidestepped a question on Sunday over whether she would join some Republican colleagues to contest the Electoral College vote during a joint session of Congress this week if she wins her runoff election in Georgia.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said from the start, everything\u2019s on the table here, and I\u2019m seriously looking at that,\u201d Loeffler said on \u201cFox News Sunday.\u201d<\/a> \u201cWe have to make sure that Georgia and all of Americans trust our voting process, but my No. 1 objective right now has to be winning on Jan. 5 so that we can get to the bottom of what happ<\/a>ened in these elections.\u201d<\/p>\n

A group of Republican senators said they will challenge the results of the Electoral College, an outcome that gave President-elect Joe Biden 306 votes over President Trump\u2019s 232 when Congress meets to certify the vote on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

They want Congress to appoint a commission to do a 10-day audit investigating the votes cast in the 2020 presidential election.<\/p>\n

Loeffler, who is running against Democratic challenger the Rev. Raphael Warnock, was pressed again by host Brett Baier if she would join the effort to certify the vote, including the result in Georgia that shows Biden won.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking very very closely at it. And I\u2019ve been one of the first to say, everything\u2019s on the table. I\u2019m fighting for this president because he\u2019s fought for us. He\u2019s our president and we\u2019re going to keep making sure that this is a fair election and looking very closely at it. But again, none of it matters if I can\u2019t wait on Jan. 5,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

At least 140 House Republicans have also signed onto the effort.<\/p>\n

As long as one member of the House and Senate object, each chamber will debate the issue and then hold separate votes.<\/p>\n

But the effort is unlikely to change the result because the Democrats hold a majority in the House, and a number of Republican senators, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, have recognized Biden\u2019s win and are unlikely to back the challenge.<\/p>\n

Loeffler\u2019s race is one of two runoff elections in Georgia on Tuesday that will determine which party controls the House and Senate.<\/p>\n

In the other election, incumbent GOP Sen. David Perdue is running against Democrat Jon Ossoff.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
