\n Hulu has removed three episodes of \u201cScrubs\u201d which featured characters in blackface, following a request by the show\u2019s creator Bill Lawrence and ABC Studios, sources have confirmed to\u00a0Variety.<\/em><\/p>\n

The episodes in question are \u201cMy Fifteen Seconds\u201d (season 3, episode 7), \u201cMy Jiggly Ball\u201d (season 5, episode 4) and \u201cMy Chopped Liver\u201d (season 5, episode 17). One featured Zach Braff\u2019s lead character in blackface at a party, while another saw Sarah Chalke\u2019s character in blackface during a fantasy sequence.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> comes only two days after multiple episodes of \u201c30 Rock\u201d were removed from streaming platforms and syndication for the same reason.<\/p>\n

Lawrence confirmed that the \u201cScrubs\u201d episode were being taken down when replying to a tweet about\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u2018s story on the \u201c30 Rock\u201d news. \u201cScrubs\u201d aired across nine total seasons from 2001 to 2010, with the first seven broadcast on NBC and the final two on ABC.<\/p>\n

The \u201c30 Rock\u201d removal came about at the request of creator Tina Fey and NBCUniversal. Fey wrote a letter to the platforms which carry the series<\/a>, saying that the blackface episodes were \u201cbest taken out of circulation.\u201d The comedia<\/a>n apologized \u201cfor pain they have caused.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation. I understand now that \u2018intent\u2019 is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for pain they have caused. Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for honoring this request,\u201d Fey wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cScrubs\u201d is the latest in a growing number of series, past and present, which are re-evaluating their depictions of race. Less than two weeks ago, Netflix pulled an episode of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross\u2019 2015 comedy show \u201cW\/Bob and David\u201d because of a scene featuring Cross in blackface. The sketch in question is called \u201cKnow Your Rights\u201d and app<\/a>eared in the third episode of the show\u2019s first and only season.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
