Microsoft has always offered spreadsheets and databases through Excel and Access, of course, but spreadsheets have limitations, and Access can be difficult to learn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A spreadsheet-database tool like Microsoft Lists gives you the power of a database with Excel\u2019s ease of use. For now, though, it still feels like a very light Airtable.<\/p>\n<p>Google Tables offers inter-table connections and automation bots. You can connect bots to webhooks, which creates a lot of integration options, but very few integrations are natively available at present.<\/p>\n<p>As cool as it is that Google is releasing this tool, it\u2019s a good idea to adopt it with caution \u2014 Google has a nasty habit of killing off some of its most innovative tools.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Notion\"><\/span><strong>5. Notion<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/notion.png\" class=\"wp-image-441757 lazyload\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/notion.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" class=\"wp-image-441757\"><\/noscript><figcaption><em>Notion Roadmap<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Notion is a versatile note-taking and knowledge management application that makes database-spreadsheets as useful for individuals as they are for teams. Notion offers a lot of ways to get organized, and dynamic tables are one of the best.<\/p>\n<p>Notion\u2019s tables tie in seamlessly with its dynamic data by adding them to pages. In fact, you can have an unlimited number of dynamic tables in each page alongside text, images, and embedded widgets.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Coda\"><\/span><strong>6. Coda<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/coda.png\" class=\"wp-image-441767 lazyload\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/coda.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" class=\"wp-image-441767\"><\/noscript><figcaption><em>Coda Team hub<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Coda is another document-oriented tool that\u2019s similar to Notion in many ways. Coda\u2019s focus is on documents rather than notes, though. It\u2019s a subtle difference, but it\u2019s central to how people use Coda.<\/p>\n<p>Coda also sets itself apart from Notion by offering a lot of integrations and more options for formatting its dynamic tables, but it still lacks Notion\u2019s clean styling and elegance.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Smartsheet\"><\/span><strong>7. Smartsheet<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smartsheet.png\" class=\"wp-image-441777 lazyload\"><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/smartsheet.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"box-shadow: 2px 2px 24px 4px #d8d8d8;\" class=\"wp-image-441777\"><\/noscript><figcaption><em>Smartsheet<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Smartsheet will likely feel more natural to spreadsheet fans. It lets you insert columns and rows in a way that\u2019s very similar to standard spreadsheets. And the advanced capabilities still look and feel like spreadsheets.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, many of the things teams do with Smartsheet are similar to what you can do with basic spreadsheets. There are plenty of examples of people pushing the capabilities of spreadsheets to the breaking point, and Smartsheet seems to have recognized that and created a better tool for those people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_ClickUp\"><\/span><strong>8. Some tools \u2014 like Notion \u2014 are flexible and give you a lot of ways to get organized. ClickUp is more direct. It gives you the ability to create documents and to-do lists, track goals, and manage time, and it presents everything with dashboards to manage it all. ClickUp also offers some really unique views \u2014 like mind maps.<\/p>\n<p>ClickUp\u2019s primary focus seems to be on lists and task lists, though. In other words, it\u2019s the to-do list of the spreadsheet-database world. And it\u2019s the task lists that have different views, rather than the dynamic tables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An unprecedented year calls for unprecedentedly flexible tools.
