Alex Trebek\u2019s final goodbye is here.<\/p>\n

The last new \u201cJeopardy!\u201d episodes featuring the game<\/a> show\u2019s longtime host will air from Jan. 4 to 8. At the start of Monday\u2019s episode, fans will see Trebek \u2014 who died Nov. 8 at age 80<\/a> following a valiant battle<\/a> with pancreatic cancer \u2014 as he \u201cdelivers a powerful message about the season of giving,\u201d according to a statement from Sony Pictures Television.<\/p>\n

The beloved host \u2014 who on Oct. 29 made his final visit to Sony\u2019s Studio 10 in Culver City, California \u2014 will also be remembered in Trebek\u2019s final show on Friday, which will include a \u201cspecial tribute\u201d to his life and work, as well as the \u201cskill, style and sophistication\u201d he presented to viewers over 37 seasons, added the production company.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Thanksgiving, the show\u2019s Twitter<\/a> account posthumously shared<\/a> a video of Trebek offering a holiday welcome. \u201cYou know, in spite of what America and the rest of the world is experiencing right now, there are many reasons to be thankful,\u201d he said, acknowledging the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. \u201cThere are more and more people extending helpful hands to do a kindness to their neighbors, and that\u2019s a good thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show\u2019s Emmy-winning executive producer, Mike Richards \u2014 a game show veteran who joined the show earlier this year, replacing retiring longtime showrunner Harry Friedman \u2014 recently remembered Trebek\u2019s dedication to his craft, even as he faced the possibility of death.<\/p>\n

\u201cI talked to him seven days before what would end up being his final taping session, and I said, \u2018Alex, you\u2019re barely up and around. We have a long way to go before you\u2019re gonna be back in the studio taping,\u201d\u2019 Richards told Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cHe got very firm, which I loved, and he goes, \u2018I\u2019ll be there. Don\u2019t you cancel anything.\u2019 And sure as heck, he was. He was a warrior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards said that the remaining five episodes were shot in just two days, despite Trebek\u2019s ailing health. \u201cYou\u2019ll watch them and you\u2019ll go, \u2018This guy\u2019s as healthy as could be. This is not a sick person at all,\u2019\u201d he said, relating an anecdote about shooting his last show.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the second day of taping, what would end up being his final taping and the final time he was in the studio, I went to the door where [he exited] and said, \u2018Hey, that was the most incredible thing I\u2019ve ever seen.\u2019 And he did not like to be complimented,\u201d Richards told EW. \u201cThat was kind of staring down the mouth of a great white when you\u2019d do that, because he really didn\u2019t like that. But I had to say it, because it was the most incredible thing I\u2019d ever seen. And he was exhausted, obviously, and he looks up and he goes, \u2018Thank you.\u2019 He knew what he had done and app<\/a>reciated the fact that we all knew what he had done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richards added that the last two taping days were \u201cvery special, and I\u2019ll never forget them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Production on new episodes of \u201cJeopardy!\u201d started on Nov. 30 and will begin airing Monday, Jan. 11, with the show\u2019s \u201cGreatest of All Time\u201d winner, 46-year-old Ken Jennings, among the short-term fill-ins. No permanent replacement host has been named, though many names have been floated as possibilities, including Jennings, ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos, \u201cGolden Girl\u201d Betty White, hockey announcer Alex Faust and CNN legal analyst Laura Coates.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeopardy!\u201d airs at 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday on WABC-TV 7 in New York. Check local listings for other times and networks.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
