Then, the mostly pre-taped MTV Video Music Awards were held in a variety of locations in and around New York, while the Country Music Association Awards took place in an intimate venue with a limited audience.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, 2020 was a big year for rap.\u00a0Megan Thee Stallion\u00a0reeled in four Grammy nods in the Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best New Artist and Record of the Year categories, while Roddy Ricch snagged nominations for \u201cThe Box\u201d in Best Rap Song, Song of the Year and Best Melodic Rap Performance categories. But it\u2019s Beyonc\u00e9 who leads the charge with nine nominations despite not releasing an album last year.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Weeknd \u2014 whose <em>After Hours<\/em> album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with over 444,000 total album-equivalent units in its first week \u2014 didn\u2019t receive a single nod, leading to even more criticism of the Recording Academy and the Weeknd calling the committee \u201ccorrupt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The late\u00a0Pop Smoke,\u00a0Doja Cat, Chika, D Smoke, Kaytranada, Post Malone, DaBaby, H.E.R. and\u00a0Thundercat\u00a0are among the many other artists nominated for a gilded trophy.
