Educators at more than 230 Catholic schools in the Big App<\/a>le want to make sure they\u2019re in the mix when the coronavirus vaccine is doled out to teachers and staff in city public schools.<\/p>\n

In a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza on Tuesday, the superintendents of schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn and the Archdiocese of New York ask that they be included in the schools distribution.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince re-opening our school buildings in September, educators, administrators, and staff have been on the frontlines, holding our educational institutions together,\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have helped our students and families return to a sense of normalcy, and most importantly, they have kept our communities safe,\u201d it said. \u201cIt is imperative that they be given the protection they deserve as soon as possible to remain safe and continue this essential work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said that schools would be among the early recipients of the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine. <\/p>\n

However, the state has come under fire for the slow rollout of the vaccine, prompting Cuomo to weigh expanding distribution centers to include senior citizens and recreation centers.<\/p>\n

De Blasio, meanwhile, has pledged to inoculate 1 million city residents this month.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
