{"id":148244,"date":"2021-01-05T19:17:37","date_gmt":"2021-01-05T16:17:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/vietnam-jails-journalists-for-propaganda-critical-of-state\/"},"modified":"2021-01-05T19:17:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-05T16:17:37","slug":"vietnam-jails-journalists-for-propaganda-critical-of-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/vietnam-jails-journalists-for-propaganda-critical-of-state\/","title":{"rendered":"#Vietnam jails journalists for &#8216;propaganda&#8217; critical of state"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Vietnam jails journalists for &#8216;propaganda&#8217; critical of state<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>HANOI \u2013 A court in Vietnam on Tuesday sentenced three freelance journalists known for their criticism of government to between 11 and 15 years in prison, after finding them guilty of spreading anti-state propaganda.<\/p>\n<p>Pham Chi Dung, Nguyen Tuong Thuy and Le Huu Minh Tuan were convicted of \u201cmaking, storing, spreading information, materials, items for the purpose of opposing the state\u201d at a one-day trial in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Public Security said.<\/p>\n<p>Dung established the Independent Journalists Association of Vietnam in 2014, which police said had sought regime change.<\/p>\n<p>Despite sweeping economic reform and increasing openness to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> change, Vietnam\u2019s ruling Communist Party retains tight media censorship and tolerates little criticism.<\/p>\n<p>The party, under the leadership of 76-year-old Nguyen Phu Trong, has intensified a crackdown on dissent ahead of its five-yearly congress due to be held later this month.<\/p>\n<p>Dung was jailed for 15 years and Thuy and Tuan 11 years each.
