\n A woman was critically injured Wednesday afternoon when a driver slammed into her in Queens while she was delivering coronavirus aid, police and witnesses said.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old victim was delivering food to people impacted by COVID-19 when she was struck by the driver on Northern Boulevard near the intersection of 110th Street at around 4 p.m., police said.<\/p>\n

She was taking the food out of her SUV when the driver crashed into her from behind, pinning her against the car, according to Carmen Velasquez, a bystander who worked with the victim at the nonprofit Brigada de Esperanza NY.<\/p>\n

Velasquez said the woman is the coordinator at the organization and a mother of three children who loves to play soccer.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s been one of the pillars of the program to help people, to make sure they\u2019re well,\u201d said Velasquez.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s a really hard-working individual who would do anything to help out another person\u2026we\u2019re devastated,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The woman was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital.<\/p>\n

The driver remained on the scene and was taken into custody. Police are investigating whether he was drunk at the time of the crash, police sources said.<\/p>\n
