{"id":148408,"date":"2021-01-06T17:29:06","date_gmt":"2021-01-06T14:29:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/gps-data-could-help-map-covid-19-transmission-risk\/"},"modified":"2021-01-06T17:29:06","modified_gmt":"2021-01-06T14:29:06","slug":"gps-data-could-help-map-covid-19-transmission-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/gps-data-could-help-map-covid-19-transmission-risk\/","title":{"rendered":"#GPS data could help map COVID-19 transmission risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#GPS data could help map COVID-19 transmission risk<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-gallery lightGallery\">\n<div data-thumb=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/tmb\/2021\/gps.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/scx2.b-cdn.net\/gfx\/news\/hires\/2021\/gps.jpg\" data-sub-html=\"Credit: Pixabay\/CC0 Public Domain\">\n<figure class=\"article-img\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/800\/2021\/gps.jpg\" alt=\"gps\" title=\"Credit: Pixabay\/CC0 Public Domain\" width=\"800\" height=\"480\"\/><figcaption class=\"text-darken text-low-up text-truncate-js text-truncate mt-3\">\n                Credit: Pixabay\/CC0 Public Domain<br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Human mobility data gathered from de-identified mobile devices could help map coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission and support contact tracing efforts, according to new research.\n                                                <\/p>\n<p>                                                                                The Australian research, published today in <i>Journal of the Royal Society Interface<\/i>, analyzed the Cedar Meats outbreak in Melbourne, the Crossroads Hotel outbreak in Western Sydney and community transmission in Victoria between June and July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The transmission patterns were then compared to near-real-time population mobility GPS data gathered from the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> Data for Good program.<\/p>\n<p>Lead author and infectious disease dynamics researcher Dr. Cameron Zachreson from the University of Melbourne said the study found that the de-identified GPS data could effectively be used to identify geographical areas with heightened COVID-19 transmission risk.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our goal was to provide useful information to help contact tracing efforts while at the same time ensuring that the privacy of individuals was never compromised,&#8221; Dr. Zachreson said.<\/p>\n<p>Study co-author and disease computational modeling researcher Associate Professor Nic Geard said containing COVID-19 outbreaks requires rapid response and a need to anticipate which populations and locations are at heightened risk of exposure.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Current prediction models often rely on static, sometimes dated, depictions of people&#8217;s movement.
