\n The Yankees and Mets will not be subject to the tri-state travel advisory issued Wednesday, requiring travelers from states with heightened COVID-19 cases to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival in New York.<\/p>\n

With the Yankees and Mets relocating the resumption of spring training to their respective home stadiums, dozens of players will be traveling to New York from various states, including Florida \u2014 where both teams had players training at team facilities before they were closed \u2014 which is experiencing one of the country\u2019s worst outbreaks of coronavirus. Once the regular season begins, the Yankees and Mets both play divisional opponents in Florida.<\/p>\n

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the travel arrangement with the teams was set up prior to the announcement of the quarantine policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I announced it, I talked to the Yankees and the Mets about this and I said that New York\u2019s health commissioner would develop a protocol with them to bring up their players. This was last week,\u201d Cuomo said on WAMC. \u201cAnd we have been doing that. \u2026 They have a protocol that when the players come up, they\u2019re gonna get tested and the saliva tested, swab tested, etc. They have a whole protocol, which predates the quarantine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo rejected the notion that the teams are receiving special treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst, it predated the quarantine, if you want to get technical,\u201d Cuomo said. \u201cYes, I could say, \u2018I renege on the agreement I made with you\u2019 \u2014 I know you made an agreement with the governor of the state, and the health department of the state, but we\u2019re just on a whim now we\u2019re gonna change because we came up with a quarantine \u2014 but even in a quarantine \u2026 the health commissioner has certain authority to handle certain classes. And look, better than quarantine by the way, I\u2019d rather have a person tested immedia<\/a>tely upon landing, that\u2019s the best way to make sure nobody is spreading an infection.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
