Katie Couric will be one of the first hosts to take the podium after the late Alex Trebek\u2019s final episodes air this week. <\/p>\n

The longtime network television powerhouse will guest host the game<\/a> show for a week, sources told the Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Couric did not respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment on the hosting role. But the show has announced plans to have guest hosts lead the show until they find a permanent replacement. Former \u201cJeopardy!\u201d champ Ken Jennings has been booked for one of the guest-hosting slots.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> comes as Trebek will app<\/a>ear for the last time on the long-running show on Friday\u2019s episode. The beloved host died in November at 80<\/a> after a battle with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. <\/p>\n

On Monday night\u2019s episode, Trebek delivered a powerful message about togetherness and giving.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll recall that about a month ago, I asked all of you to take a moment to give thanks for all of the blessings that you enjoy in your lives,\u201d he said. \u201cNow, today, a different kind of message. This is the season of giving. I know you want to be generous with your family, your friends, your loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued on with a challenge for fans who have watched the show he hosted for more than 8,200 episodes.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut today, I\u2019d like you to go one step further. I\u2019d like you to open up your hands and open up your hearts to those who are still suffering because of COVID-19. People who are suffering through no fault of their own,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to build a gentler, kinder society, and if we all pitch in \u2014 just a little bit \u2014 we\u2019re gonna get there.\u201d<\/p>\n

The episode, which was filmed in October, ended with a dedication to Trebek reading: \u201cForever in our hearts, always our inspiration.\u201d<\/p>\n

His final episode will include \u201ca special tribute to the life and work of the man who captained America\u2019s Favorite Quiz Show with skill,\u00a0style, and sophistication for 36+ years,\u201d according to a statement from \u201cJeopardy!\u201d producer Sony Pictures Television. The last week of episodes was scheduled to air during the week of Christmas, but Sony pushed them back\u00a0so fans could enjoy<\/a>\u00a0their final moments with Trebek.<\/p>\n

Couric, 63, anchored NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d from 1991 through 2006, then moved on to anchor \u201cCBS Evening News\u201d and start her own media<\/a> company. She also became a fierce advocate for cancer screenings and research, having lost both her first husband and her sister to cancer.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
