She had to have her back leg and part of her tail removed after she was hit by a car and was still on post-op medication when she disappeared from Summers\u2019 yard.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI searched everywhere for her and posted online but no one came forward,\u201d Summers told\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/news\/disabled-dog-missing-for-10-months-reunited-her-with-owner-on-new-years-day\/\">Fox 2 Now<\/a>. \u201cI had suspicions that she was stolen but I couldn\u2019t confirm it. I was so worried about her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After 10 months of searching, he decided to start looking for another dog to adopt\u00a0\u2014 and found Athena\u2019s picture on the Gateway Pet Guardians website on Dec. 30. He quickly called the animal welfare agency.<\/p>\n<p>Gateway, based in East St. Louis, Ill., had taken Athena in earlier in the month along with several other dogs after police removed them from a property \u201cwhere the owner was in serious legal trouble,\u201d Gateway wrote on\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/gatewaypets\/posts\/10159353253766995\">Facebook<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-facebook wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler\"\/>\u201cThe other dogs at the residence looked like they had never had vet,\u201d the agency wrote. \u201cNaturally, we were all puzzled as to how a dog who had costly surgeries was there with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Just two days after calling the shelter \u2014 on Jan. 1 \u2014\u00a0Summers and Athena were reunited.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so happy to hear that she was safe and doing well and being reunited with her was incredible,\u201d Summers told Fox 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>. \u201cShe is already settled back in at home and it\u2019s like she never left.
