Police opened fire on a man driving towards them in a stolen van in Brooklyn Wednesday night, according to the NYPD and sources.<\/p>\n

The man was struck in the leg by a bullet that app<\/a>ears to have pierced the vehicle, sources said, and he is in stable condition. <\/p>\n

The altercation unfolded after officers spotted two men rummaging through a vehicle at about 8:45 p.m. near Pitkin Avenue and Georgia Avenue in East New York, according to sources and police.<\/p>\n

As officers approached, one of the men jumped into a stolen van and drove towards police, sources said.<\/p>\n

At least one officer opened fire in the shooting, sources said.<\/p>\n

The man who was struck fled in the van before police stopped him about a half-mile away near Pennsylvania and Jamaica Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n

Police took the man into custody before he was taken to Brookdale Hospital for treatment, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Several officers were also evaluated at nearby hospitals.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
