Instacart\u00a0said on Thursday it had hired Goldman Sachs banker Nick Giovanni as its new chief financial officer, as the grocery delivery app<\/a> gears up for a potential initial public offering.<\/p>\n

Giovanni, who was at Goldman Sachs for more than 20 years and most recently was head of the investment bank\u2019s global technology<\/a>, media<\/a> and telecom group, will join\u00a0Instacart\u00a0on Jan. 27 and succeed current CFO Sagar Sanghvi.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we look ahead, Nick\u2019s finance experience, operational discipline, and deep understanding of complex marketplaces like ours will be instrumental to\u00a0Instacart,\u201d\u00a0Instacart\u00a0founder and Chief Executive Apoorva Mehta said in a statement.<\/p>\n

At Goldman Sachs, Giovanni worked on IPOs for the likes of home rental company Airbnb and social media platform Twitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur family has relied on\u00a0Instacart\u00a0for years and I\u2019m thrilled to join the team during such a unique time for the company,\u201d Giovanni said.<\/p>\n

Reuters reported in November that\u00a0Instacart\u00a0had picked Goldman Sachs to lead preparations for its IPO, which could come this year and value it at around $30 billion.<\/p>\n

Instacart\u00a0has declined to comment on any IPO plans.<\/p>\n

Launched in 2012 and led by its co-founder Apoorva Mehta,\u00a0Instacart\u2019s order volumes have surged as much as 500 percent last year, as consumers shopped online during the coronavirus outbreak.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
