Bakkt, the cryptocurrency trading platform majority-owned by Intercontinental Exchange, is rumored to be deep in discussions to go public through a merger with VPC Impact Acquisition Holdings.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 7, Bloomberg published<\/a> a story citing anonymous sources \u201cwith knowledge of the matter\u201d who claimed Bakkt is already in advanced talks regarding the merger, predicting that an official announcement on the matter could be published as soon as next week.<\/p>\n

The sources estimate the combined entity could be valued at more than $2 billion should the merger be completed.<\/p>\n

VPC is a special purpose acquisition company closely affiliated with Victory Park Capital \u2014 an SEC-registered alternative investment firm. VPC chief executive John Martin has described the firm\u2019s core strategy as seeking to \u201cidentify, partner with and help grow a business in the fintech sector.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bakkt launched in 2019 and is an institutional focused, regulated platform offering \u201cphysically-delivered\u201d Bitcoin futures contract. The exchange\u2019s futures drove $286<\/a> million in trade volume over the past week.<\/p>\n

Bakkt\u2019s founding CEO and outgoing U.S. Senator, Kelly Loeffler, lost Georgia\u2019s run-off election on Jan. 6. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
