For example, with AI and data, you can find patterns so much faster and come up with a thousand alternatives that would take people years to work on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But in our \u2018data-driven\u2019 era, there is one fledgling technology that could (ironically) help us humanize the future of tech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>XR technology is based on enhancing the human experience by bringing our senses into the mix. This helps, not only to make the experience more realistic, but also makes it more personalized and emotional.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTake for instance, a digital twin of a city, where you can immediately see all the possibilities instead of simply looking at a spreadsheet. But the world changes so fast now (especially the world of tech) that, after publishing a book, it quickly becomes outdated,\u201d Lurling said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This year, the experience of having to study and work from home really pushed a lot of companies and schools to begin using this tech for the first time and, after getting a taste of the potential benefits it can bring, it\u2019s unlikely to slow down. A <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pwc.com\/us\/en\/services\/consulting\/technology\/emerging-technology\/vr-study-2020.html\"><span>study<\/span><\/a><span> by PwC found that VR learners are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>4x faster to train than in the classroom<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>275% more confident to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ly skills learned after training<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><span>4x more focused than their e-learning peers<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The study also found that, because of the more immersive learning experience, VR learners are 3.75x more emotionally connected to content than classroom learners. And this emotional connection can make a huge difference when it comes to really understanding and retaining knowledge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the high-pressure, fast-paced environment healthcare workers face every day, staying on top of workplace training is extremely difficult. But this can lead to deadly consequences. According to VR startup, <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/virti.com\/\"><span>Virti<\/span><\/a><span>, one of the leading causes of death globally is actually medical error.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company is using on-demand VR based training, to help improve accessibility, scalability, and knowledge retention of workplace trainings for medical professionals. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Rather than learning in a classroom or from a text, simulating a patient care experience helps increase a learner\u2019s emotional connection to the content and empathy, thereby greatly reducing the risk of medical error and improving patient safety.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"TMCx08 - Virti\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V0sLiKXFm6k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span>And it\u2019s not just the medical industry that could benefit from XR tech.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With such wide-ranging clients as KLM, the BBC, and Gazprom, <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.warpvr.com\/\"><span>Warp VR<\/span><\/a><span> is helping train engineers in workplace safety, simulate sales trainings, and prepare staff for emergency situations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Imagine how nerve-wracking it would be to walk into a meeting with a board of directors and pitch your company\u2019s product for the first time? And leading experts from the <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/14-05-2020-substantial-investment-needed-to-avert-mental-health-crisis\"><span>WHO<\/span><\/a><span>, the <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/geekgirlrising\/2020\/10\/10\/6-strategies-for-beating-covid-anxiety-depression\/\"><span>Red Cross<\/span><\/a><span>, and academic institutions like <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/blog\/global-mental-health-in-the-time-of-covid-19-2020061620194\"><span>Harvard University<\/span><\/a><span> have warned that Covid-19 will only exacerbate this problem, potentially leading to a mental health crisis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But XR technology is providing new opportunities and solutions. While we may not be able to fully understand what patients are going through, by combining sight, sound, smell, and touch, psychologists and researchers have been able to simulate emotional experiences, helping them treat patients with different psychological conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One company making particularly interesting progress in this field is the Netherlands-based <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sensiks.com\/\"><span>Sensiks<\/span><\/a><span>. They teamed up with a clinical psychologist from the University of Amsterdam to help find new ways to treat phobias and the effects of emotional trauma, with a special focus on patients with PTSD.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>With their sensory reality pods that go beyond visuals to include heat, wind, airflow, tremble, light, and sound effects, they\u2019ve been able to recreate the sense of being in wartime or other traumatizing situation.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Nighttime in Kabul | A Cure For Fear: Part 2 | Topic\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_NyrzpzLYAQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span>This has helped patients to draw out their emotions during therapy sessions, and psychologists to study the effects of different treatments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This year they announced a new partnership to provide a short-term treatment strategy for traumatized healthcare workers during COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As the company\u2019s philosophy states: \u201cWhat computer programming did for the digitization of society and economy in the last two decades is what Sensory Reality will do for understanding and optimizing the mental state of human beings.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Taking_consumer_personalization_to_the_next_level\"><\/span><b>Taking consumer personalization to the next level\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>This year, with consumers sheltering in their homes, we saw more and more marketing teams begin to experiment with AR and VR tech. From \u201ctry before you buy\u201d to virtual expanded product views that allow customers to see the fine details of a product before they drop it into their online shopping cart.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But Lurling believes this is only the beginning. With looming budget cuts, advertisers will need to focus spending on more targeted bets that will reach higher ROI thresholds. Emerging tech, with a major boost from XR, will be the key to the future of hyper-personalized advertising in our homes and on the streets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One great example he shared was <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tropos-ar.com\/\"><span>Tropos AR<\/span><\/a><span>, an advertisement solution that allows consumers to choose which types of products they\u2019re most interested in. The solution then uses a combination of AR and blockchain to share personalized ads, discounts, and coupons.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Tropos AR\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DgkCjhffrVM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<span>\u201cTropos AR uses a perfect convergence of technology. What they do really well is that they make a connection with the customer. When you go to a shopping street, you get all the advertisements. But Tropos makes it so that you only see the advertisements that you\u2019re interested in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Studies show that <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/us\/en\/insights\/article\/2019\/augmented-retail-the-new-consumer-reality\/\"><span>43% of consumers<\/span><\/a><span> are willing to adopt store tech if it alleviates time and ease. In fact, Shopify found that products with AR content have a <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2020\/10\/how-ar-is-redefining-retail-in-the-pandemic\"><span>94% higher conversion rate<\/span><\/a><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This means, rather than investing in a billboard that only a small section of your target audience may see on the high street, you can instead reach them directly with personalized ads. In this way, putting consumers in control provides better, more personalized deals for them and much better ROI for companies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Gamifying_our_physical_health\"><\/span><b>Gamifying our physical health<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>For most of us, exercise is that annoying chore that no amount of athleisure wear or peppy gym instructors can make even remotely enticing. But what if we could somehow actually make working out fun?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While the world of tech has brought us forward in many ways, it also has its drawbacks. The more screen time we spend, the less time we spend on the move.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIn 2019, the WHO published a report showing that 80% of young people are developing conditions you normally see in elderly people. And, to a large extent, that group includes <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>rs,\u201d Lurling said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In fact, the health organization recently added <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/05\/28\/727585904\/is-gaming-disorder-an-illness-the-who-says-yes-adding-it-to-its-list-of-diseases\"><span>\u2018gaming disorder\u2019<\/span><\/a><span> to its list of diseases. But he also believes that XR can provide some solutions that are way more fun than simply hitting the track more often.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you bring a physical element to gaming, you can create an environment which is like <\/span><i><span>Ready Player One<\/span><\/i><span>,\u201d Lurling said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>XR is helping us expand our gameplay by combining visuals with interactive touch-based games that follow your body\u2019s movement. And <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/researchportal.bath.ac.uk\/en\/publications\/virtual-reality-exergaming-can-increase-enjoyment-and-performance\"><span>studies<\/span><\/a><span> show that virtual-reality \u2018exergaming\u2019 can actually increase enjoyment and performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Eindhoven based <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/activeesportsarena.nl\/en\"><span>Active Sports Arena<\/span><\/a><span> is one example. Their wire and controller-free VR games are being used by companies to make team building activities and even brainstorming sessions more interactive.<\/span><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Active Esports Arena at the Johan Cruijff ArenA - Amsterdam\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pxiYughoFEE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Improving_the_XR_experience\"><\/span><b>Improving the XR experience\u00a0<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span>While XR is helping us in so many ways, in some cases, after prolonged periods of time, VR and AR tech can cause eye strain, headaches, fatigue, and nausea.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Because the flat plane 3D images we see in XR headsets don\u2019t actually contain real depth, our eyes aren\u2019t able to naturally focus in and out of them as they would with real-life images. But advances in what\u2019s called light-field technology are helping to make XR images more life-like and, of course, easier on the eyes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a market dominated by tech giants, like Facebook\u2019s Oculus, Swiss startup <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.creal.com\/\"><span>CREAL<\/span><\/a><span> is bringing some serious competition.
