Deezer D, who scrubbed up as nurse Malik McGrath on the beloved medical drama \u201cER,\u201d has died. He was 55.<\/p>\n

Although no official cause of death has been released, Deezer is believed to have died of a heart attack Thursday morning, his brother Marshawn told TMZ<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Deezer was a high-profile part of NBC\u2019s iconic Thursday night \u201cmust-see-TV\u201d lineup for nearly 200 episodes spanning 1994 through 2009.<\/p>\n

The actor \u2014 whose birth name was Dearon Thompson \u2014 was found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. He had previously survived major six-hour heart surgery in 2009.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a heart valve that is leaking and the aorta had expanded to way beyond what it is supposed to be,\u201d Deezer told Radar Online<\/a> at the time. \u201cAs soon as the doctor identified what was going on, he put me in here \u2026 What I was going through for the last year \u2014 that was scary. I\u2019m fearless about the surgery.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to his long-running role on the Steven Spielberg-produced \u201cER\u201d opposite George Clooney and Julianna Marguiles, Deezer had co-starring roles in cult films such as 1993\u2019s \u201cCB4\u201d with Chris Rock and 1997\u2019s \u201cRomy & Michelle\u2019s High School Reunion\u201d with Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino.<\/p>\n

He also app<\/a>eared in 1991\u2019s infamous \u201cCool as Ice\u201d with rapper Vanilla Ice \u2014 and had a career in hip-hop himself, appearing on soundtracks for \u201cCB4\u201d and 2002\u2019s \u201cCrazy As Hell.\u201d <\/p>\n

Deezer released his only full-length solo recording, \u201cDelayed, But Not Denied,\u201d<\/a> in 2008. <\/p>\n

A new single, \u201cHistory Can\u2019t Be Stopped,\u201d<\/a> was released posthumously on Friday. Tragically, the track was teased just three days ago on Instagram.<\/p>\n

His last acting credit listed on IMBD is a small role in the 2017 TV film \u201cCrowning Jules\u201d opposite original \u201cBuffy the Vampire Slayer\u201d Kristy Swanson.<\/p>\n

In recent years, Deezer launched a career as a Christian motivational speaker and worked as a personal trainer, as documented on his Instagram page<\/a>. <\/p>\n

His fellow actors and crew members have already started taking to Twitter<\/a> to pay tribute to the late actor.<\/p>\n
