\n BET founder Robert Johnson slammed those who topple Confederate and other statues across the US as \u201cborderline anarchists\u201d \u2014 and argued the act means \u201cabsolutely means nothing\u201d to black Americans.<\/p>\n

Johnson, who recently called for the government to provide $14 trillion in reparations to the descendants of slavery, told FOX News<\/a> Wednesday that the movement to take down statues, cancel TV shows and fire professors is meaningless to help the black community.<\/p>\n

People tearing down statues \u201chave the mistaken assumption that black people are sitting around cheering for them saying \u2018Oh, my God, look at these white people. They\u2019re doing something so important to us. They\u2019re taking down the statue of a Civil War general<\/a> who fought for the South,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, black people, in my opinion, black people laugh at white people who do this the same way we laugh at white people who say, \u2018we got to take off the TV shows,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] tantamount to rearranging the deck chairs on a racial Titanic,\u201d added Johnson, who became the country\u2019s first black billionaire in 2001. \u201cIt absolutely means nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Black Americans, Johnson argued, would benefit more from structural changes like economic equality.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, the people who are basically tearing down statues, trying to make a statement are basically borderline anarchists, the way I look at it,\u201d Johnson told FOX. \u201cThey really have no agenda other than the idea we\u2019re going to topple a statue. It\u2019s not going to close the wealth gap. It\u2019s not going to give a kid whose parents can\u2019t afford college money to go to college. It\u2019s not going to close the labor gap between what white workers are paid and what black workers are paid. And it\u2019s not going to take people off welfare or food stamps.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also rejected the idea of canceling TV shows like \u201cThe Dukes of Hazzard\u201d because of the Confederate flags that app<\/a>ear in it, and the move to put a prologue at the start of the film \u201cGone With The Wind,\u201d warning of racist content.<\/p>\n

Johnson also lashed into white celebrities who use their social media<\/a> platforms to apologize for their race.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know, that to me is the silliest expression of white privilege that exists in this country. The notion that a celebrity could get on a Twitter feed and say, \u2018oh, my God, I am so sorry that I am white,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t find any black people getting on Twitter and saying, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m so sorry I\u2019m black.\u2019 And we got the worst problems. \u2026 My thing is: embrace being white and do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Johnson urged white Americans to sit down with black Americans and ask what they really want.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhite Americans seem to think that if they just do sort of emotionally or drastic things that black people are going to say, \u2018Oh my God, white people love us because they took down a statue of Stonewall Jackson,\u2019\u201dhe said. \u201cFrankly, black people don\u2019t give a damn.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
