\n The president of Greater New York Black Lives Matter said that if the movement fails to achieve meaningful change during nationwide protests over George Floyd\u2019s death by Minnesapolis police officers, it will \u201cburn down this system.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this country doesn\u2019t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it. All right? And I could be speaking figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It\u2019s a matter of interpretation,\u201d Hawk News<\/a>ome said during an interview Wednesday evening on \u201cThe Story\u201d with Martha MacCallum.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s be very real,\u201d he told the Fox News host. \u201cLet\u2019s observe the history of the 1960s, when black people were rioting. We had the highest growth in wealth, in property ownership. Think about the last few weeks since we started protesting. There have been eight cops fired across the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said in past incidents involving fatal encounters with citizens, police officers were always allowed due process, but when people begin to destroy property, things change.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is this country rewarding? What behavior is it listening to? Obviously not marching. But when people get aggressive and they escalate their protests, cops get fired, Republican politicians talking about police reform,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t condone nor do I condemn rioting,\u201d Newsome continued. \u201cBut I\u2019m just telling you what I observed.\u201d<\/p>\n

MacCallum asked Newsome what Black Lives Matter hoped to achieve through violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow, it\u2019s interesting that you would pose that question like that,\u201d Newsome responded, \u201cbecause this country is built upon violence. What was the American Revolution? What\u2019s our diplomacy across the globe?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe go in and we blow up countries and we replace their leaders with leaders who we like. So for any American to accuse us of being violent is extremely hypocritical,\u201d Newsome added.<\/p>\n

The unrest has continued across the country since Floyd\u2019s death on May 25, with the marchers calling for police reforms.<\/p>\n

But the protests have sometimes turned violent, with looting and arson.<\/p>\n

The protesters have also targeted monuments and statues, including those of Confederate soldiers and the Founding Fathers, spray-painting them with graffiti and pulling them to the ground.<\/p>\n

Newsome said the movement is about \u201csaving lives\u201d and it should be praised for supporting the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody\u2019s talking about ambushing police officers. We\u2019re talking about protecting lives,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing more American than that. We talk about uplifting and upholding the Second Amendment. I think you should be applauding me, seeing how you guys are huge supporters of the Second Amendment.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it seems to be the hypocrisy of America that when black people start talking about arming themselves and defending themselves, [that] talk is \u2018violent.\u2019 But when white people grab assault rifles and go to our nation\u2019s, their state capitals, it\u2019s all good,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As the interview concluded, Newsome added, \u201cI just want black liberation, and black sovereignty. By any means necessary.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
