\n It finally happ<\/a>ened: Twitter has permanently suspended @realDonaldTrump, the outgoing President\u2019s personal account. In related news<\/a>, cortisol levels around the world suddenly dropped to their lowest levels in four years.<\/p>\n

Twitter says it suspended the account \u201cdue to the risk of further incitement of violence,\u201d referencing the attack on the Capitol by a group of pro-Trump thugs that resulted in five deaths.<\/p>\n

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump<\/a> account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.https:\/\/t.co\/CBpE1I6j8Y<\/a><\/p>\n

The company adds that although its \u201cpublic interest framework\u00a0exists to enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly,\u201d these people \u201care not above our rules entirely and cannot use Twitter to incite violence, among other things.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Twitter goes into further detail about the decision in a blog post<\/a>, citing Trump\u2019s\u00a0latest tweets, which the company says violate its \u201cglorification of violence policy<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Tweets are no longer available on the @realDonaldTrump<\/a> page, but the @POTUS<\/a> account, which often simply retweets content from Trump\u2018s personal Twitter, is still accessible. It\u2019s possible Trump will use this account for his rants instead, but @POTUS a government account that will be handed over to the Biden administration on January 20.<\/p>\n

For many, the suspension will have come too late \u2013 \u2013 Trump\u2018s tweets have arguably\u00a0incited violence many times over<\/a>. But it\u2019s something.<\/p>\n
